Summary

This guide teaches staff about the Morbus RDM logs and how to read them to determine an RDM.

Reading and Interpreting the Logs - Getting Started

Here I will be giving you segments from actual Morbus end round logs as examples for situations to teach you how to read and interpret the logs.

There are some things you must look for when reading all Morbus end round logs:

1) Who started the RDM?

2) Was the person who RDM’d shooting an alien at the same time? If so, it is more likely to be an accident

3) How many times did they shoot the player? If it was 1-2, it is more likely an accident, if it was several, than it is less likely an accident

4) Did more than one person RDM the player, if so, it is less likely to be an accident.

Different Damage Tags

At the end of every round, the end round logs will paste into your console. You must read through each of them and look for the RDM’s at the end of every round.

There are 5 different tags in the logs, RDM, Damage, Kill, Infect, and, Die.

The RDM tag is the one you are looking for. This tells you when a human player has killed another human player.

For example:

[00:00] [] RDM [] DoctorGringo (HUMAN) has --- RDM'd --- Vertex (HUMAN) [ RDM ]

The Damage tag can help you decide whose fault an RDM was or whether an RDM was an accident, and is the most common. This tells you every piece of damage that happened within the round.

For example:

[01:30] [Damage] DoctorGringo (HUMAN) has damaged Vertex (HUMAN) [Crowbar: 37]

The Kill tag is only looked for when a Brood Alien was RDM’d. This tag shows all events in which a player was killed during a round.

For example:

[03:18] [Kill] DoctorGringo (HUMAN) has killed Vertex (BROOD ALIEN) [ Brood Killed ]

The Die tag is only looked at for when a player is Swarm Fragging. This tag shows all events in which a player has died during a round.

For example:

[10:00] [Die] DoctorGringo (HUMAN) has died [ Suicide ]

The Infect tag is also only looked at for when a player is Swarm Fragging. This tag shows all events in which a player has been infected by an Alien during a round.

For example:

[02:04] [Infect] DoctorGringo (BROOD ALIEN) has infected Vertex (HUMAN)

Reading through the logs at first can be a chore, especially if there are several RDM’s during a single round, but you must be able to read them accurately so you don’t end up punishing the wrong person.

Admin discretion is needed when reading through RDM logs, as you can interpret if an RDM was an accident or not by checking various different things to do with the Damage tags, which will be discussed further in this guide.

Situation 1: RDM

[00:42] [Kill] Dabbles (HUMAN) has killed Swag! (SWARM ALIEN) [ Swarm Killed ]
[00:42] [Damage] Sr.Waffles (BROOD ALIEN) has damaged â™”RoyalGhost (HUMAN) [Alien Form: 16]
[00:42] [Damage] Sr.Waffles (BROOD ALIEN) has damaged â™”RoyalGhost (HUMAN) [Alien Form: 16]
[00:42] [Infect] Sr.Waffles (BROOD ALIEN) has infected â™”RoyalGhost (HUMAN)
[01:29] [Damage] jakeman124 (HUMAN) has damaged kiingtodavid (HUMAN) [M20: 11]
[01:29] [Damage] jakeman124 (HUMAN) has damaged kiingtodavid (HUMAN) [M20: 12]
[01:29] [Damage] jakeman124 (HUMAN) has damaged kiingtodavid (HUMAN) [M20: 16]
[01:29] [Damage] jakeman124 (HUMAN) has damaged kiingtodavid (HUMAN) [M20: 15]
[01:30] [Damage] jakeman124 (HUMAN) has damaged kiingtodavid (HUMAN) [M20: 19]
[01:30] [Damage] jakeman124 (HUMAN) has damaged kiingtodavid (HUMAN) [M20: 15]
[01:30] [Damage] jakeman124 (HUMAN) has damaged kiingtodavid (HUMAN) [M20: 16]

[01:30] [] RDM [] jakeman124 (HUMAN) has --- RDM'd --- kiingtodavid (HUMAN) [ RDM ]
[01:47] [Damage] Sr.Waffles (BROOD ALIEN) has damaged Fuzion6987 (HUMAN) [Alien Form: 16]
[01:48] [Damage] Sr.Waffles (BROOD ALIEN) has damaged Fuzion6987 (HUMAN) [Alien Form: 16]
[01:49] [Damage] kiingtodavid (SWARM ALIEN) has damaged FrostytheSnowdirk (HUMAN) [Plasbolt: 9]
[01:49] [Damage] Sr.Waffles (BROOD ALIEN) has damaged Fuzion6987 (HUMAN) [Alien Form: 16]
[01:50] [Damage] Fuzion6987 (HUMAN) has damaged Sr.Waffles (BROOD ALIEN) [M20: 11]

Here we can see that jakeman124 has RDM'd kiingtodavid. Now we must look for some key things.

1) Who started the RDM?

To find out, we have to read the earliest Damage tag that includes jakeman124 and kiingtodavid. The earliest one I see is at 1:29 and it shows that jakeman124 started the RDM.

2) Was the person who RDM’d fighting an alien at the same time? If so, it is more likely to be an accident

To find out, we must read through all of the Damage tags that include jakeman124 between when the RDM started and finished (Between Green and Yellow). It looks like jakeman124 was not fighting any aliens at this time.

3) How many times did they shoot the player? If it was 1-2, it is more likely an accident, if it was several, than it is less likely an accident

This is easy, all we have to do is add up all of the damage tags that jakeman124 started with kiingtodavid, so 7. (Add up Green and Red)

4) Did more than one person RDM the player, if so, it is less likely to be an accident.

To find out, you must look for other damage tags in which a human is damaging Kiingtodavid before he is killed. In this case, there aren’t any, so the answer is no.

Based on this situation and what the logs are telling me, I can say that jakeman124 RDM’d kiingtodavid, and I would send him a warning as the Admin Handbook states.

Situation 2: Self Defense and Priming

[00:15] [Damage] ItDoesn'tSuckItsSelf. (HUMAN) has damaged Myconid (HUMAN) [Plasbolt: 19]
[00:15] [Damage] ItDoesn'tSuckItsSelf. (HUMAN) has damaged Myconid (HUMAN) [Plasbolt: 13]

[00:37] [Damage] Sr.Waffles (HUMAN) has damaged â™”RoyalGhost (HUMAN) [Vektor: 9]
[00:37] [Damage] Sr.Waffles (HUMAN) has damaged ItDoesn'tSuckItsSelf. (HUMAN) [Vektor: 12]
[00:37] [Damage] ItDoesn'tSuckItsSelf. (HUMAN) has damaged Makr6e6 (HUMAN) [Plasbolt: 16]
[00:37] [Damage] ItDoesn'tSuckItsSelf. (HUMAN) has damaged â™”RoyalGhost (HUMAN) [Plasbolt: 7]
[00:37] [Damage] ItDoesn'tSuckItsSelf. (HUMAN) has damaged Makr6e6 (HUMAN) [Plasbolt: 11]
[00:37] [Damage] Sr.Waffles (HUMAN) has damaged ItDoesn'tSuckItsSelf. (HUMAN) [Vektor: 10]
[00:37] [Damage] Sr.Waffles (HUMAN) has damaged ItDoesn'tSuckItsSelf. (HUMAN) [Vektor: 13]
[00:37] [] RDM [] Sr.Waffles (HUMAN) has --- RDM'd --- ItDoesn'tSuckItsSelf. (HUMAN) [ RDM ]

Here we can see Sr. Waffles has RDM’d ItDoesn’tSuckItsSelf. Now we must again look for some key things.

1) Who started the RDM?

Following the same formula as before, we find the first damage log between the two and are able to conclude that it was ItDoesn’tSuckItsSelf who started the RDM, and so Sr. Waffles was defending himself. If we continue to go above that we can see that ItDoesn’tSuckItsSelf has actually Primed 3 other players before attacking Sr. Waffles as well, which would be something to take into consideration when reading through the logs.

2) Was the person who RDM’d fighting an alien at the same time? If so, it is more likely to be an accident

No, they were not.

3) How many times did they shoot the player? If it was 1-2, it is more likely an accident, if it was several, than it is less likely an accident

He shot Sr. Waffles twice, but Primed 2 other players for major damage and one other player for minor damage, so this would not be something to ignore.

4) Did more than one person RDM the player, if so, it is less likely to be an accident.

No.

Based on this situation and what the logs are telling me, I can say that Sr. Waffles did not RDM ItDoesn’tSuckItsSelf, but acted in self defense, and that ItDoesn’tSuckItsSelf was Priming / Attempting to RDM several players. I would have sent ItDoesn’tSuckItsSelf a warning, but skipping directly to a warning + a slay would have been okay as well.

[02:09] [Damage] ItDoesn'tSuckItsSelf. (SWARM ALIEN) has damaged Dr.Rocky BloodCrush (HUMAN) [Plasbolt: 7]
[02:10] [Damage] FrostytheSnowdirk (HUMAN) has damaged â™”RoyalGhost (HUMAN) [ZX9: 19]
[02:10] [] RDM [] FrostytheSnowdirk (HUMAN) has --- RDM'd --- â™”RoyalGhost (HUMAN) [ RDM ]

Here we can see FrostytheSnowdirk has RDM’d â™”RoyalGhost. Let’s look at our key questions.

1) Who started the RDM?

FrostytheSnowdirk

2) Was the person who RDM’d fighting an alien at the same time? If so, it is more likely to be an accident

No.

3) How many times did they shoot the player? If it was 1-2, it is more likely an accident, if it was several, than it is less likely an accident

Only once.

4) Did more than one person RDM the player, if so, it is less likely to be an accident.

No, but if you see the Brood jakeman124 was damaging â™”RoyalGhost and that is most likely the reason why FrostytheSnowdirk shot â™”RoyalGhost.

Based on this situation and what the logs are telling me, I would say that this was an accident / honest mistake and ignore it because FrostytheSnowdirk only shot â™”RoyalGhost once, and the Brood jakeman124 was shooting â™”RoyalGhost, which most likely made FrostytheSnowdirk believe that â™”RoyalGhost was the Brood herself. However different staff members may think differently, it is open to interpretation.

[00:53] [Damage] ᵡᴳḽᴰᴹ Doctor Gringo (HUMAN) has damaged A White Guy (BROOD ALIEN) [Vektor: 6]

[00:53] [Damage] ᵡᴳḽᴰᴹ Doctor Gringo (HUMAN) has damaged Makr6e6 (HUMAN) [Vektor: 13]
[00:53] [] RDM [] ᵡᴳḽᴰᴹ Doctor Gringo (HUMAN) has --- RDM'd --- Makr6e6 (HUMAN) [ RDM ]

Here we can see ᵡᴳḽᴰᴹ Doctor Gringo RDM’d Makr6e6.

1) Who started the RDM?

ᵡᴳḽᴰᴹ Doctor Gringo

2) Was the person who RDM’d fighting an alien at the same time? If so, it is more likely to be an accident

Yes, they were. They were fighting a Brood Alien and since the Damage tags are broken up between ᵡᴳḽᴰᴹ Doctor Gringo hitting the human and the Brood you can clearly see he was fighting a Brood at the same time.

3) How many times did they shoot the player? If it was 1-2, it is more likely an accident, if it was several, than it is less likely an accident

6 times. (No highlights + green)

4) Did more than one person RDM the player, if so, it is less likely to be an accident.

No.

Based on this situation and what the logs are telling me I would say that this was an accident because ᵡᴳḽᴰᴹ Doctor Gringo was fighting a Brood at the same time as he RDM’d the human, so you can infer that the human got caught in the crossfire and was accidently hit. This however can also be interpreted as ᵡᴳḽᴰᴹ Doctor Gringo RDMing Makr6e6 because he thinks he’s a Brood. This is a matter of admin interpretation, if you feel it is an accident, ignore it, but if you feel it is an RDM, punish them accordingly.

[00:31] [] RDM [] kiingtodavid (HUMAN) has --- RDM'd --- Dr.Rocky BloodCrush (HUMAN) [ RDM ]

Here we can see a Chain RDM, which is when 1 player RDM’s / shoots another, and then it starts a series of other RDM’s out of confusion. Let’s look at our questions.

1) Who started the RDM?

nikki loves fluffy tail

2) Was the person who RDM’d fighting an alien at the same time? If so, it is more likely to be an accident

No.

3) How many times did they shoot the player? If it was 1-2, it is more likely an accident, if it was several, than it is less likely an accident

3 times (Green)

4) Did more than one person RDM the player, if so, it is less likely to be an accident.

No.

Based on this situation and what the logs are telling me I would say that nikki loves fluffy tail tried to RDM Skeleton Chef Dude but Skeleton Chef Dude was able to defend himself. But this created confusion for all of the other players who witnessed the situation and caused a firefight to break out between them, causing a series of RDM’s. You do not punish all of those involved in a Chain RDM, only the person who started it, which in this case would have been nikki loves fluffy tail. See the Admin Handbook for more information.

[00:39] [Kill] ᵡᴳḽᴰᴹ Doctor Gringo (BROOD ALIEN) has killed Makr6e6 (SWARM ALIEN) [ Swarm Killed ]

Broods killing other aliens will not show up as an RDM in the logs, same with humans killing aliens. You will only ever know which Brood is team killing if you encounter and read these kinds of logs. In this situation we can see that ᵡᴳḽᴰᴹ Doctor Gringo, a Brood killed Makr6e6, a Swarm alien and based on the amount of times he shot him (17) it wasn’t an accident. This would be considered RDM, see the Admin Handbook to see RDM punishments.

Situation 7: Swarm Fragging

[05:07] [Die] I'm not a Spy (HUMAN) has died [ Suicide ]

[05:09] [Infect] I'm not a Spy (SWARM ALIEN) has infected AP Art History (HUMAN)

Swarm Fragging is a special circumstance that you will not see very often. It is when a player throws a grenade but slays himself before it explodes, causing all players killed by the grenade to become infected. This will not show up in the logs as an RDM, but as a Swarm damaging and killing players with a grenade. See the Admin Handbook to Swarm Fragging punishments.

Here is when the player suicided
Here is when the grenade exploded and infected/damaged the players.

In Closing

Remember that admin discretion is needed when reading the logs. If you see an RDM in the logs don’t assume it actually is one, use this guide’s information, especially the 4 questions, to better determine whether it was an RDM, accident, or self-defence. You never want to be in the situation of sending someone a warning or banning someone for something that wasn’t their fault, that is why being able to read the logs successfully is one of the most important things you can do.
