in every discord server ive been in

having a channel dedicated to anything

any dumb shit ppl want to post

offensive/porn/whatever

makes the quality of every other channel

much better

makes jobs of the staff much easier as well

 

"nsfw" essentially acts as a containment channel, where people are free to do whatever the fuck they want as long as its legal and not harassing others. its necessary, serves a purpose that isnt just for jerking off, and probably helps create some sort of community bond somewhere (looking at all the freaks that spam trap stuff/even legitimate porn)

 

if you dont want to look at it, mute it. if we do add functionality where ranks can only view (I don't see the reason to do so personally), it should be automated somehow (bots r Kool). i know nobody wants to deal with asking other people if they can essentially view the "porn channel", and i know no staff are gonna wanna deal with that either lmfao

I would say +1 for removal just for consistency's sake. As has been previously stated there is no way to regulate who is actually 18 and an nsfw channel will cause confusion with every other aspect of xG. Plus I can just taste the inevitable loli argument 2: Electric Boogaloo coming on. and with the boundary pushing people trying to bend serious rules and the months of clarifying threads and arguments that are likely, it could all be avoided if we just didn't.

 

But that's just my two cents and I won't be the one moderating it so if people want a harder job godspeed.

 

 

 

Ps while I can edit I do like the idea some have mentioned of a server group to opt in to seeing it, instead of it being on the user to mute/avoid. That seems much safer and easier to manage on our end.

Im pretty sure it gives you a warning saying that you're going into a NSFW channel even if it doesnt have nsfw in the name.

When you click the NSFW channel, it warns you and tells you that the channel is 18+ and NSFW. You can decide whether or not you want to see the channel, so I don't see a need to remove it when it basically gives you terms and conditions before even seeing the NSFW stuff.

 

If you really want to you can just ignore the channel too.

 

Though I don't really mind the outcome I don't really see the issue here when you have options to ignore it yourself.

Discord's TOS doesn't allow loli/shota porn so it shouldn't even be an issue as it's out of our hands anyway.

There's a lot of good points here on both sides.

I see I was one of the few who voted to actually change the chatroom, and here's why:

 

1) Having an 18+ chat is practical for discussing things like M rated games, or making dirty jokes, whatever else. Because the chat asks you to claim your age as 18 before entering, like others have said, it's your responsibility for whatever you may see in the chat.

2) However, it goes against what xG is to have any kind of 18+ content (supposedly :p). Nevertheless, because it asks for you to claim your age this is a totally OK exception in my eyes.

Regardless, the no 18+ content rule's purpose, in my eyes, is to disallow and prevent the promotion of things like pornography, people making death threats, harassment/bullying, etc.

 

My concern is that this chatroom is just going to turn into a porn dump and a great place for people to spew negativity simply because they can do so behind a keyboard. I don't think that's the way we want to be seen as a community.

 

Basically, after looking at these facts, I'm totally ok with the chatroom, provided people don't abuse it.

I'd like to see a few rules added to the room such as no porn, no child porn, etc. (unless these already exist and I'm just dumb :p)

That's the only thing I'd like to see changed. A line drawn somewhere.

If we do not allow NSFW content in our servers, the rule should stand for discord as well, otherwise we are giving mixed signals.

@virr you can add a role w're the people only with the role can access or even see the ch. So people can ask for the role. If they ask for the role then I'm pretty sure that they know what nsfw (young or old) so we can't prevent them from "seeing". And if people don't know what nsfw is then they won't even see the ch. Hence they don't wanna see it. Then they can not ask for the role. (It's what I do for my main discord ch. I mod a mobile phone clan ch with around 160 people. Still growing :D)

May want to consider dropping down a line in our rules and adding an excerpt from the previously linked Discord guidelines should the NSFW channel not be removed; or at the very least outline the severity of breaking Discord's own guidelines. Additionally, probably highlight the fact that the 'NSFW' channel is exempt from rules A, B, and C with the exception of X, Y and Z or something along those lines.

 

Unrelated to that, I do agree that we keep things in line with our current structure of rules, but do keep in mind that our [game] Servers are Public and that it is explicitly stated what we do or do not allow ingame. With that in mind, provided that the channel is explicitly stating that it is a channel that is 'NSFW' (would also recommend throwing an "18+ only" in there somewhere, just for the principle of the matter) it is entirely up to the discretion of the user to voluntarily access it.

 

Simply put, the differences are that:

 

Discord

The user has to go out of their way to willingly view the content and upon accessing it, has acknowledged the fact that the content in the channel is 'NSFW' and that they are alright with viewing it.

 

Game Server

The user is not subjected to such content because it is publicly against the rules of the server; it is not tolerated in any shape or form and therefore the user can expect not to see any 'NSFW' content.

 

Notice that the main distinction is that the user is either willingly accessing that sort of content, or willingly accepts that it is not permitted and can therefore expect not to see it. The users are not expected to enter the 'NSFW' channel, nor will they ever have to. It doesn't make sense to compare the two as they share very little in common, other than the fact that both are endorsed by Xeno Gamers.

 

With that said, I'm fine with it as long as the following [previously mentioned in the thread] is considered:

 

1. Implementation of a role to allow users to access the channel

2. Routine monitoring to ensure that the content does not breach our own rules/terms as well as Discord's
