New Age/Folk Thread

Recommended Posts

I love Enya. She's absolutely amasing. Orinoco Flow was one of my favourite songs as a child, but it wasn't until the summer of 2001 I realised it was her. I now have every one of her CDs except her most recent "Best of" with the photoshop disaster as the cover. I even got a CD copy of "Enya" from 1987.

Her sister Moya (M?ire) is also great, as is the family band Clannad. (Clip is Moya sinnging as part of Clannad)

Deep Forest is good, too. I don't own anything of theirs, though. Adiemus is on the same level, I enjoy it but don't own any of it.

As a child I also very much enjoyed Simon and Garfunkel's "Bridge over Troubled Water." That album was one of my favourite tapes. "Ms. Robinson" is not one of my favourites of theirs.

Jewel is probably one of my favourite folk singers ever, even though she had a pop feel even in her early works. She sold out with her album 0304 and hasn't been the same since, though.

One would be remiss to mention folk music without mentioning Ani DiFranco. Feminist to the extreme, Ani is one of the most amasing folk singers ever. She built her own record label from the ground up and now has several artists signed to her.

Oh my God...

I effin' love Enya and Deep Forest. I grew up listening to them, and as soon as I got an iPod, I needed all the songs I had listened to as a child. (My mom's a pagan, so I listned to a lot of relative music)

I'm trying to expose myself more, because there is some good new age out there.
