Essentially, what you are proposing is a multiple regression and you want to find the best predictor for incarceration. Race would have a strong correlation, but its predictive capabilities would be consumed by any measure of poverty. Split the African American population by incomes and you will see a vast drop in incarceration rates which suggests that it is important to fund inner city schools and African American scholarships. I work with a lot of data that suggests that men and less intelligent than women, but gender isn't the primary cause. So if you perpetuate the stereotype on the simple factual level of descriptive statistics, you'll misinterpret data and risk harming people. So when people use these words associated with certain races, it is reinforcing the misinformed descriptive statistics about jail profiles. It is a very complicated situation. While a lot of people feel comfortable with that word, i do not. I don't like the word is because you are making fun of a certain type of people for acting black, because only black people are suppose to be "unintelligent", "like rap", etc. There is a good documentary called Blacking Up that tries to address white people who "act black" and how society reacts to that. I have two tips if you are entering college for the first time; be a boss with 1. statistics and 2. take a Womens Studies and a African American studies class. Many students expect psychology is just about helping people, and then they find out it is a lot of statistics and research. The other hand is that psychology is often limited because people attribute findings to biology instead of the potential diversity of human behavior. Just have a basic understanding of two major minority groups can take a lot of the poop out of research. But that is the whole principle to jail break. The rules of CSS use to be Ts vs CTs, kill each other. The rules of the game mode changes everyone's in game behaviors. When CTs free kill, other people say "hey dude, not cool", then they either stop or they continue. If they continue then they get banned/slayed/etcetcetc You can change behavior and it is rather easy. Thank you, by the way, for changing the tone of the discussion. Hey, i first off want to say thank you. You have been one of the few people not to respond by perpetuationg the reason why i am posting here. I agree there isn't a magical solution to the problem. I do institutional research for a University, so i work with a lot of data that could be horribly misinterpreted. I took it upon myself to learn about women and African American rights so that i do not make a mistake in interpreting my data. I am always constantly looking out for interesting sociology lessons because psychology has had a bad history with ignoring how fluid personality and culture can be. We often make mistakes assuming things like homosexuality were once mental disorders. Most people have recgonized that using certain words are wrong; this community has done a lot of that. And it is the guys' fault. That didn't translate very well. I meant educated African Americans, primarily those who focus on the social struggles of the community. They are not the ones perpetuating words of oppression. Who are you to tell girls how to play video games? They can play however they want as long as they are not hurting or harassing you. Women also choose not to talk on the microphone or have feminine names because other users will act out, but that still isn't the woman's fault if other people cannot behave.

Because i have listened to educated African Americans and women speak about why they don't like to play video games. The creator of Fat, Ugly or Slutty has outlined pretty well that online video games have not been very accepting of women.

I don't keep racism alive. I merely recognize that it still exists instead of pretending like it doesn't. I try to read good amounts of minority literature so that i can understand the unique problems faced by women, African Americans, disabled people, etc. I also use my background in psychology to understand that our cognition is easily influenced. Telling racist jokes in the back room at work can alter an interviewers preferences. Even something like a cold cup of water can influence an interviewers opinion, statistically. African Americans use the N word as a put down word of other African Americans. The word was so powerfully used by white people against African Americans that the word because synonymous with the putting down of other African Americans. This is also evident in how a lot of Aferican American children wish to be a lighter skin tone; i.e. lighter=better, darker=n-word. By using it in combination of a jail break game, you are reinforcing the societal problem of a disproportional amount of African Americans in the jail system. That is a step in the right direction, but there is not a difference between the two words. The problem is people say things like "I don't think it is offensive" or "I don't think it is racist" when they are not even the target group for that oppressive group. It is harder for the majority group to see oppression of minority groups because it seems normal or the majority group doesn't understand it. If you watch south park, there was an episode where Token was angry at Stan or Kyle. At the end of the episode, Kyle or Stan finally understood how to understand African American problems; understanding that you don't understand.

Hey McNeo, you have to understand that you need to be mentally healthy before you can start working on losing weight. Too many people think they'll be happy when they are skinny, and then they fail, and then they get sad, depressed, etc etc. Understand that losing weight will not make you healthy. Being healthy will make you happy. Don't go cold turkey into any new diet. Don't spend money on any shake weights or medicine. DO NOT BUY DIET PILLS. Diet pills do not help you create a healthy life style. Easy simple things you can do to begin progressing to a healthy life style minus the cold turkey. 1. You do not need to finish what is on your plate. Save it and eat it later. If you are pushing yourself to clean your plate, you are either eating too much or too little. There is nothing special about plates that dictate how much you are suppose to eat. 2. If you eat out, order an equal amount of water to your soda/drink. Rotate between soda and water. If you are feeling good, limit yourself to one glass of soda. 3. Listen to Pod Casts when you want to walk/run/work out. I listen to PC Gamer on my long bike rides. You can even buy audio books that interest you. I find it really difficult to read, but when i listen to audio books while i ride my bike/walk, it makes comprehension and walking longer distances easier. 4. Find ways to be happy about yourself. You really need to learn to love yourself and accept yourself. This sounds silly, but trust me, i am studying psychology. In business psychology, you can skip out on paying people larger paychecks if they are happy with their life and their job.

I have noticed other common replies to stuff like this such as "Yes, disrespect is not gonna be tolerated, but you can't ban someone for saying "Dumbass" or "Loser" or "faggot" just in general. It's the internet." Why is the internet some holy grail of bigotry; do people think it seriously can't be fixed? If we are expected to act a certain way at school, work, or generally in public, why can't we ask the same of people on Steam? The internet is becoming less and less anonymoys: steam is integrated with facebook, people play with real friends. Why can we not take a proactive step for some of these kids and tell them, "hey, these things are bad, and sometimes they can get you in trouble". I personally don't want video games to be the medium of choice for people to exercise racist and sexist behavior that they otherwise couldn't. I want video games to be something that i can sit down with my significant other and have a good time. I want to be able to trust a kid to join a PG 13 community and be safe (with proper supervision from the parent).

I play on the Jail Break server. I would like to preface this by saying xG is a great server and probably the best Hail Break community. I appreciate the community rules like keeping language PG- 13 and not bringing up touchy subjects (6 and 7). It is nice to have a mature place to enjoy a good game of jail break. However, i understand that a product of being one of the largest communities for Jail Break is that you get a lot of people who are not mature and like to joke around with "nerd culture". I suppose i can understand that. Many of us geeks have been picked on in real life for not being the most popular of people. The internet is a very accepting community, but only if you fit in to the popular internet group. I have seen a lot of racism and ableism in the Jail Break server; sometimes from non xG members and sometimes from xG members. I have tried contacting the xG members personally just to let them know that i personally don't appreciate that type of language, but so far only xG TurdWig has been receptive (i mean really apologetic, he is really cool, great member too). I can accept the occasional burst of racism, but what disturbs me is that no one calls it out; no one says "Guys, please don't say X here". In my experience, X has been variations of the N word. I know why people use the N word, because this is a jail break came and i suppose we are suppose to be African Americans or something like that. Still, while it might be funny to most of us white male gamers, it is offensive to people who have been put down by that word. Generally, we (typically white) gamers cannot understand the social and personal impact of a word like that. So i think we should perhaps and try to come to a consensus about limiting the usage of that work. I also see a bit of sexism like "bitch" and "kitchen" jokes but that isn't as bad and not something i am going to complain about as much. I think it should be a goal to be welcoming of women, but given CSS demographics, i think you could skip out on this. Personally, words like faggot hit a cord with me. The LGBT community has harassed much more than geek/gamer community and we as gamers typically use that as a put down on other gamers. It is a really ugly word that has been associated with murders of GLBT people. While the word isn't as historically powerful as the N word, it is a little more recent for the general gamer demographic. One of the biggest changes i want to see is a large reduction of ableist language. Ableism is kind of like racism, but for disabled people of any flavor. I have noticed that many people on the server may have varying degrees of lighter mental disorders. While i do not want to get into specific psychological disorders or specific users, why would a community want to put down its own members? I know a lot of people who are on the upper spectrum of the autism scale who love video games because other people can't notice their disorder as easily. Calling people retarded would be the most obvious example, but even smaller things like calling people "dumb" or "stupid" can be hurtful. I don't want anyone to get banned because i come off as a big politically correct outsider. I perhaps just want to see more of a vocal effort of xG members to say "hey, that isn't cool... you could be muted for that". Again, for the most part, xG is a great community. Great moderation is hard because you often get a lot of people who think this is an appropriate medium to misbehave, and i understand that. I do think there can be better agreement among xG members about topics like these and i think regulars should become more vocal about this. xG TurdWig is a cool guy, can't get that across enough
