  1. It's just to show that the player is dedicated and active within the discussions related to their division and players and such. If they cant get it without spamming that may reflect their maturity and impatience.

ShadowSpy's right. If people insist on gravedigging and spamming just in order to complete a requirement, I think we'll be able to tell. ;-) It might seem like an annoyance to you, but having this requirement in place actually helps us determine whether someone wants to help improve the community, or if they're just looking to gain staff for the status. There have been some poor staff appointments in the past, but I think this requirement (along with the others) helps to separate the wheat from the chaff, so to speak.

  2. While I understand why the Donor rule was there in the first place (it helps support the server and ensure staff loyalty), it was a big turn-off to a lot of longtime committed players, myself included. A fortunate few of us were accepted without donating, but for the most part it seemed like anyone with their parents' credit card could "buy" staff, which prevented mature, responsible individuals from ensuring proper player management and frequently created a shitstorm of abuse. This in turn resulted in a high turnover rate among mods, unless they got in good with the admins+, which allowed them to continue their shit while the higher-ups weren't looking. Ultimately, this good-intentioned rule caused a ton of problems and people either didn't have the balls or the authority to revoke it. Good for you guys for finally understanding why this rule causes more trouble than good. I think you'll see marked improvement in the quality of staff when you accept players based solely on their activity and maturity and not how much they paid.

(Edit: Sorry for my rant, this rule has just bothered me for quite a long time.)

  3. Sorry I'm late to the party.

Don't worry guys. If we have a former staff member want staff again, and they haven't donated, we aren't going to cold-shoulder them. =p

Really Scoot? 'Cause that kinda happened to me. Hero - Team Fortress 2 I'm not faulting anyone for this, but if the right hand doesn't know what the left is doing that's a bit disconcerting to me. @Scootaloo

Edit: Noticed Donor req has been removed. Good call.

  4. Congrats @Bach @Misu @SuperMaddud :D

I'm a little concerned about Bach's unstable status as moderator. Not that I'm not happy for him for this week's promo, but upper management needs to decide one way or the other whether he's going to be an xG mod (instead of adding/removing his powers every other promo/demo) so he can fulfill his responsibilities more effectively. If you want to make him an exception to the activity rule for real-life reasons, etc. (as with @metalslug53), I'm cool with that. If you're adding his promo "from Member to Retard" to the promo/demo as an inside joke (like Minecraft's "added Herobrine"), I'm cool with that too. Just please don't leave the rest of us waiting for the other shoe to drop every two weeks.

    Thanks.

  5. I know, and I usually build my base far away from spawn. Only reason I mentioned that is because most combat occurs around spawn or in the PvP arena. So if the area near spawn is a giant ravine, PvP at spawn isn't going to be much fun for anyone (except for the noob hunters).

  6. Oh yeah, I totally get that. Of course, TNT is hella fun for raids, but just be aware that there will be trolls that are going to wreck the landscape with it. So after like a month it's going to be difficult to fight or build anything anywhere close to spawn.

Option #1: Ban TNT and make raiding a bit more difficult

Option #2: Keep TNT and have to reset the map in a month or three

  7. The server has multiple plugins. From MythicMobs to donator perks ( Like Drop Parties and Trails/name colors. ) Come check us out.

Nice. Since you're running MythicMobs, it might be fun to run EpicQuest alongside it. It'll gives players an option to embark on quests and defeat "boss" mobs and such, to make the Factions server more exciting. Basic quests can be the "fetch" quests like gathering 200 feathers or killing 100 players, while more advanced quests might include navigating a difficult maze or killing one of the "boss" mobs.

My longtime favorite Factions server recently closed down, but it had basic quests like the "kill 100 players" quest, and each time you completed a quest the next "level" of that quest would require more kills (500, 1000, etc.) and the rewards would be greater. Not sure if this "leveling" system of quests is included in EpicQuest, since I never got the name of the plugin they used.

But anyhow, it depends on which direction you want to take the server. My two cents.

  8. What kind of mods/plugins does it have?

Well, it's mainly a Factions server, I'll go ahead and assume you know what that is. That's about all I know yet. I remember the old server but I haven't tried the new one just yet.

Edit: Just realized how dumb this post is. Fudge it, forget I said anything.

  9. Well, context really determines my view on the matter. If someone said "bronies are (insert crude word here)", I'm totally cool with them being muted. If someone said "the Redskins are a good football team", there is no acceptable reason to mute them, no matter how wrong they may be. ;)

    Edit: Jk Redskins are okay

    • I don't intend to cause a flame war, but muting players that "make fun of certain 'groups'" isn't exactly abuse. Regardless of whether you are black, white, gay, straight, or furry, nobody wants to be made to feel inferior or stupid. Light, playful mocking is acceptable, but if someone on the server continually insulted bronies and the like, I can understand why they were muted. Maybe race and homosexuality are more 'controversial' or 'politically correct' topics, but that doesn't mean other groups are any less important. From my understanding, we strive to be a friendly, inclusive community, and if Vaporeon was muting brony-haters then I think he was doing a good job.

  10. I'm kinda confused on the whole Vaporeon thing, and I'm sure I'm not the only one besides Vaporeon who would like further explanation about why he was demoted. While I understand the other promos/demos (and congrats to Skull and Deth :D), Vaporeon is active, friendly, and responsible. I haven't seen any abuse reports yet. Are haters just pming complaints to you guys, instead of standing up and reporting him? I had a similar experience where I was suddenly removed from my school's Student Senate with no specific explanation, despite my excellent contributions to the team. Their reason was that I "wasn't active enough". I assume you guys are better about this than they were and give moderators advance notice and reasonable explanation, in order for them to explain themselves or correct their behavior. I'm confident that I'm not the only one surprised at Vaporeon's sudden demotion. I understand you have your reasons and have a deeper understanding of the community's needs than I do, but please help me understand why a respected member of the community is suddenly relieved of his position. I don't mean to cause trouble -- I'm just confused.
