There have been about 514 leap years since Caesar created it in 45BC. Without the extra day every 4 years today would be July 28th 2013. Also, the Mayan calendar did not account for leap years so technically the world should have ended 7 months ago. But what will probably happen is a bio-chemical war or maybe the aliens will come visit us and we will have to fight them :worked_till_5am:

It doesn't matter because the Mayan calendar is based on days not solar years. It may be off though due to different solar years that have less days, but leap years based on the Gregorian calendar don't really affect the date.

 

Have leap days confused the calculated date for the "end of the Mayan calendar"? (May not be the best source, but it's something) Scroll down towards the bottom.

 

Besides, I don't believe in any 2012 bullshit. If you do your research, all you is see is people trying to make money. Most of the people who make books and websites are people who never studied in anything to do with Mayans or history, they may have studied marketing though lol. There has been no proof of any of the theories these conspiracy theorists have brought up, but there has been plenty of counteracts with logical proof from people who work in that field. For example, all of the space related theories are either over-exaggerated or complete horse shit that astronomers debunk all the time.
