To run DA:I or any of the new AAA titles, the GTX 970 will run them amazingly all at max settings. (Excluding AC:Unity, that game is horribly optimized)

Dependent on the games/resolution/settings you want. To play any game that are currently out at max settings at 1080p, then the GTX 970/R9 290X would be both great cards. If you're not really playing that many games at 1080p at max settings, then the GTX 770 would be another great card.
