  1. So in case you're wondering if this is a scam, it isn't. It's a free purchase on Amazon. This promo expires tomorrow, so if you haven't gotten it yet, get it while you still can. If you're wary of clicking links just Google it and I'm sure it will show up.

    Link to free starter pack

This starter pack provides you with 8 free champions (normally 450 IP each), 10 XP boosters and 4 IP boosters. Enjoy!

NOTE: This ONLY applies to League players on the North American (NA) servers. If your account is linked to another continent then you will not be able to redeem this item.

  2. Sorry to necro but this is still relevant for any new players out there.

Currently, these are the easiest cheap champs to pick up, in my opinion:

    Top: Garen, Nasus

Mid: Annie, Ryze. You'll have to put some work into Ryze though because you have to practice button combos to make the most of his passive.

Jungle: Master Yi, Warwick. But honestly, I wouldn't bother jungling until you get the Smite summoner spell -- it helps tremendously.

    ADC: Ashe, Ezreal

    Support: Soraka, Sona

  3. Geez guys, calm your tits.

Back when I was a mod we just tempbanned people for a really long time and PMed an admin to make it a perm. No need to give mods perm power, it screws things up if a mod abuses his ban privileges. Mods, just keep an admin or three on speed dial and everything's gonna be fine.

  4. The rune spread on Soraka is BS. You don't need extra armor since she's only played support (or rarely, mid), and gold gain seals are unnecessary since you'll probably take a gold gain mastery and item on support. Go with AP marks and glyphs and HP regen seals and quints. The flat MR glyphs are helpful in the early game for Soraka n00bs but when you're smart/skilled enough to not get hit then you'll find that the extra HP regen is much more useful in the long run. Oh, and take a single crit mark just for lulz for that 1% crit chance -- I always do.

  5. The only ones I can compare through any degree of experience are DotA 2 and LoL. My thoughts, in no particular order:

    • Pudge is basically Blitzcrank with an ultimate like Cho'Gath's Feast
    • Ashe is basically Drow Ranger with an ultimate like Mirana's Sacred Arrow
    • Spectre is basically Nocturne with Zed's Living Shadow and an ultimate like Azir's Emperor's Divide

    • Kassadin is basically the AP equivalent of Anti-Mage

    • Enchantress is basically human Nidalee with crowd control
    • Corki is basically Gyrocopter with bombs and a Gatling gun instead of rockets and an air strike
    • Amumu's ultimate is basically a nerfed version of Tidehunter's ultimate
    • Brand's ultimate is basically a nerfed version of Lich's ultimate

I like League more than DotA. Overall, League has a wider selection of items and champions, and while some characters might be railroaded into a single role (Amumu jungle, etc.), combat isn't as abrupt and there is more emphasis on abilities since they become more effective based on your AD/AP/HP/whatever.

I play top, mid and support. I recently tried out Sona support (since she was F2P last week) and I'm totally getting her when I get enough IP. Champs below:

    • Top: Garen, Darius, Teemo
    • Mid: Kennen, Ahri, Ryze
    • Support: Soraka, Blitzcrank, Zilean

If I get screwed into another role in solo queue:

    • Jungle: Amumu
    • ADC: Ashe

I like champions that can be used in multiple roles. Garen and Darius are obviously railroaded into top lane, but the others can be used successfully in at least two of my chosen roles.

  6. When I saw the name of this thread, I immediately thought of the LoL summoner spell Smite and assumed it was some advanced guide on how to use it.

Idk why I thought that ...

  7. Armorbound, Level 9, unranked. Started a week or two ago after months of friends bugging me to join. LoL is my new TF2.

Update: Hit L16 yesterday, any ideas on how to play Gnar? I just unlocked the little fuzzball and he's tons of fun, but feels different from the typical tanky toplaners I play (Nasus, Garen, Darius, etc.)

  8. I totally feel ya about Brawl -- I feel the same way about PM. I've played Melee for much longer, but PM Lucas has been so much more fun for me than any Melee character. So while I concede that Melee is a "better" game mechanically, I enjoy PM more, much like you with Brawl.

Any of the Smash games is a valid "best" choice if you bring your personal experience into the mix. If I objectively compare the titles, I would choose Melee as the best game. On the other hand, if I ranked the games based on my enjoyment and skill in them, it would be much harder for me to place Melee over Project M.

It's not much for debate, but there's more than one way to rank the games.

  9. #BuffPichusUpAir

Idk man, Pichu had a much different playstyle from Pikachu, which made the low knock back from Uair beneficial to him. Whereas Pikachu was mostly about setting up for a tailspike or some other aerial gimp, Pichu was mostly about juggling into an upsmash. Up-throw --> (Several Uairs and Nairs) --> Upsmash was my bread-and-butter Pichu strat. Unless they give Uair some tailspike properties, I doubt it would help Pichu much to add extra damage and/or knockback.

If you're talking about damage, basically all of Pichu's attacks did like 3-4 damage (so changing one won't make much of a difference). The only exceptions to this were his Up-Smash (better than Pikachu's), his Down-B (also better than Pikachu's), and his Side-B (better than Roy's Neutral-B)

  10. At least the broken characters in the other games weren't banned from tournaments.

To be fair, Brawl was released January 2008, and Meta Knight was banned from tournaments in January 2012 (four years later). Sm4sh was only released this past October -- the meta hasn't developed enough yet to determine whether any characters are consistently OP . . . but Diddy Kong's looking pretty badass right now. He's certainly no Meta Knight, but my guess is that he'll be the next Melee Fox unless Nintendo nerfs him in a future update.

  11. With college coming up, I've had less and less time to play computer games. I've also been going through some personal stuff right now. So ...

Effective immediately, I'm resigning from my position as an xG moderator. (Yeah, yeah, I said I wasn't going to quit. Sorrie guyssss.)

Increasingly, TF2 has become less of a game and more of an addiction for me. Also, since I'm getting more involved in college and other activities, that means I have less time to commit to TF2. And frankly, I suck at the game (@Bach, don't laugh :p). Honestly, the only reason I kept playing was for you guys -- I enjoy hanging out with you all and I'll definitely miss that. But if I can't commit to the job right now, then I don't really deserve to be a leader in the community.

This doesn't mean I'm never coming back to TF2. I'm not leaving the clan yet and I'll probably still lurk the forums and TeamSpeak. I just really need a break for a few months, I'm kinda burned out at the moment and need to focus on my college studies.

@Kypari @Kurama @Tekage - My favorite British friends. Miss you all, hope I'll see you again someday.

@Healix - Bae pocket. May you find another Medic who deserves you. :)

    @Dethman @Ohstopyou - You're a good friend, dude. Keep it up.

@Swift - Best Jiggly I know. Sleep on, man. Sleep on.

@Everyone else - It was fun, you guys rock and stuff. I'll be back before you know it. ;)

    Later guys.

    ~Hero

  12. So I'm a little late to the party here, but I think this is a fantastic idea. It's difficult at best to sell anything on TGH or Pokémon because nobody's really interested in the trade aspect. As mentioned before, it's a nightmare trying to coordinate giveaways or costume contests or whatever when a few people aren't on board with it. I'm totally down for populating this server when I get back. +1 for an actual trade server.

  13. I definitely think that Marth is #2 in Melee -- Falco is certainly no Fox. Fox is top of the list for many reasons, mainly because of the versatility and reliable KO potential of his shine. While Marth is decent against Fox, he has a terrible time against Sheik, and surprisingly against Link and a couple other low-tier characters. Also, a large part of the matchup depends on the Marth player's ability to successfully initiate and maintain throw combos on Fox. In contrast, Fox's only solid counter is Falco, and even then Mango is the only Falco player who has been able to take down top-level Fox players. Additionally, Marth relies (mostly) on either aggressive aerial play or defensive ground play at any given time, while there are a great variety of successful Fox playstyles: ground Foxes (Chillin), aerial Foxes (Leffen), aggressive Foxes (Mango), campy Foxes (Toph), physical Foxes (SFAT), technical Foxes (Mew2King), and many more. While these examples generalize each player and they obviously incorporate other elements into their playstyle, it just shows that there are many viable options available to the character. While both of of Marth's main playstyles are nonetheless very effective, Fox has many more options available to him than Marth, and I think we'll see a lot more development of that character in the future. I'm not saying Marth has peaked yet, but he just doesn't have the wide variety of reliable tools that Fox does. So, much as I prefer playing Marth to Fox, it's difficult for me to rank Fox below him.

Tl;dr: Fox is the best character in Melee. Marth is a close second.

Edit - As far as the Fox v. Marth matchup goes, Fox has a slightly better neutral game while Marth has a slightly better punish game. Fox is good at chip damage while Marth is good at chaingrabs. Fox is great at platform movement while Marth is great at tech chasing. Fox can approach easily while Marth can gimp easily. Fox can bait into a waveshine while Marth can bait into a combo. Fox has a good shinespike but Marth has a better recovery. Fox has the advantage on Stadium, Dream Land and Yoshi's while Marth has the advantage on FD, Battlefield and Fountain. It's tough to gauge who is better in a straight matchup because each character can beat the other a different way. Ultimately it's 50/50 in a 1v1.
