1. Alright, so I'm curious as to which Zelda game you like the most, and why it appeals to you.

The only games that don't count here are remakes of a previous Zelda title (such as those for Gamecube or 3DS), cameos in other games (such as Animal Crossing or Game & Watch), and games that aren't part of the official Zelda timeline (Link's Crossbow Training, Hyrule Warriors).

    So, which is your favorite?

  2. @Black_Dynamite How could I forget Double Dash? One of my favorites too. I just added the more famous GCN games that came to mind. Good call.

@The_Unlit_Torch Of course it counts! I have the Master Collection too, 10/10 would recommend to anyone.

Personally, I think the upside to playing Master Quest over the original is that the difficulty for many dungeons was increased and there are some pretty entertaining glitches; the downside is that you can skip most of the Water Temple and nearly all of the useful glitches (Bottle Adventure, Door of Time Skip, etc.) were patched.

  3. Vote on your top 3 favorite games and say why you like them in the comments below!

My favorites are Twilight Princess, Metroid Prime: Echoes and Super Smash Bros. Melee. I like Twilight Princess and Echoes because they're dark but realistic -- quite unlike many of the other games in their respective series -- and they have great storylines and plot twists. I like Super Smash Bros. just because it's fun to play and difficult to master.

    Thoughts?

Alright, so here are my thoughts on the series. I probably left something out but whatever.

    The ranks:

    1. Super Smash Bros. Melee

    2. Project M

    3. Super Smash Bros. Brawl

    4. Super Smash Bros. 64

    5. Super Smash Bros 4 (SM4SH)

    SSBM: 1st place

Pros – Easily the best competitive Smash title, not to mention a great spectator sport. Fast, dynamic, exciting to watch and even more fun to play. Enough character options and content that it's been a fan favorite for nearly 15 years. This game basically sets the standard for all future Smash titles, although it's doubtful that any will ever compare.

Cons – The fast-paced nature of this game makes it difficult to master and less of a “party” game. But really, if you’re playing Melee with anything but competitive intentions, you need to find a new game.

Characters – Sheik/Zelda, Link, Ganondorf (main); Marth, Puff, ICs (alternate)

Reason for characters: While I am good with them, I main the Hyrule trio for fun and for style, not because they’re optimal character choices. If we're looking to optimize though, Marth is good against nearly every character while Puff cleans up the rest, so that’ll be my competitive team if I ever decide to play in tournaments. Wobbling is fun.

    SSBPM: 2nd place

Pros – This Brawl mod takes the characters and DACUS of Brawl and combines it with the physics and fast-paced gameplay of Melee. Roy and Mewtwo are back, and much better than their Melee counterparts. All multi-character selections (Pokemon Trainer, Zelda/Sheik and Samus/Zero Suit) are separated into their component characters, and most are better than their vanilla Brawl counterparts. But in the end, it’s really just Melee with Brawl characters.

Cons – The game is constantly being patched, with characters updated and revised every several months, making it impossible for a standard metagame to develop and evolve (as it has with Melee). Mewtwo is a little too overpowered, but it’s still to be seen whether he’ll become the next Meta Knight or if he’s just more like Melee Fox.

Characters – Marth, Lucas, Kirby (main); Snake, Mewtwo

Reason for characters: I enjoy the feel of Marth and Lucas, can't really explain it. I use Kirby to troll, especially if my opponent is an Ivysaur main – it’s a soft counter and I can go to nearly any stage and win. It’s dumb and cheap and funny as hell. Mewtwo is just a given 'cause he's good, and Snake’s stickies are OP.

    SSBB: 3rd place

Pros – Several useful new techniques, such as the DACUS, debuted in this game. The Subspace Emissary adventure mode is totally awesome, and easily the most engaging single-player Smash mode to date (and it has a co-op feature too!). Meta Knight is basically a Melee character in this Brawl world.

Cons – Random trips make gameplay unpredictable and detract from the competitive potential of the game. Couple that with the floaty game physics, and you have one heckuva boring game to watch (usually) that favors defensive strategic play. Some advanced techniques in Melee were removed (Wavedashing, etc.). Meta Knight is too overpowered.

Characters – Marth, Lucas (main); Meta Knight, ICs (alternate)

Reason for characters: Marth and Lucas as above. Meta Knight is a given, and ICs still have infinite grab combos.

    SSB64: 4th place

Pros – Easily the most “party” game of any Smash title. Fun to play with friends. I miss Saffron City.

Cons – Many of the maps still have a fixed-angle feel to them, like basically every other fighting game. Y’know, like you’re fighting in a box. Easily the least “hype” Smash title to watch, unless Isai is playing (Google him if you don’t know who that is). I know there are some high-level strategies and skill involved in competitive play, but this is by no means a spectator sport. Combos are difficult to perform. While great for its time, Smash 64 has a small character roster, limited character options and little bonus content as compared to the other Smash titles.

Characters – Kirby (main); Link, Fox, Falcon (alternate)

Reason for characters: Link for style points (and for fun too!). Kirby 'cause he plays like Melee 'Puff. Fox and Falcon 'cause they're easier to control than their Melee counterparts.

    SSB4: 5th place

A quick note: Most people seem to believe the formula here is [(Melee + Brawl)/2] = SM4SH. Although the physics are indeed somewhere between the previous two titles, the action lag for each character’s moves varies from better than Melee to worse than Brawl, so the game really is its own thing, for better or for worse. So far I have only watched others play it on YouTube, so I can’t make a fully-educated decision, but if I have to rank it I’ll put it last. It's not worth mentioning the Wii U and the 3DS versions separately, since I really don't know the difference.

Pros – Certainly more entertaining to watch than Smash 64. Online play is faster and more synced than in Brawl, and the roster seems more or less balanced. The ability to play a decent Smash game on a handheld device is pretty cool too.

Cons – Several advanced strategies from previous titles (edgehogging, etc.) have been nerfed or removed entirely. There’s no adventure mode ... I guess Nintendo couldn’t think of a way to top Subspace Emissary? While the twist with Master Hand at the end of the Wii U single-player mode is interesting,

Master Hand turns into a black hole with superpowers for a while, then turns into this little black ball you bounce around the screen. You go from fighting a Nishruu to playing Pong.

it’s just not the same as a new Subspace. Also, For Glory mode isn’t much different from online play in the last title, except that it performs a bit better and has a cool name. Since Nintendo finally made the leap to include DLC, we may see *mandatory* patches and updates released for the game just like with Project M (but that’s just speculation). Removed Snake and ICs. Overall, I’m not very impressed with this game thus far.

Characters – None at the moment, but I may try out Marth, Mewtwo and/or Lucas in the future.

    The Verdict:

Melee is da best, nothing will compare. Project M is pretty good too. Brawl is actually better than diehard Melee fans make it out to be. Smash 64 is fun to play with friends, but lacks content. Still undecided on Smash 4.

For Smash skeptics, this may change your mind (or at least make you rethink preconceived notions). If you like Smash already, it’s still an interesting analysis of Melee: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8qxVDOc-oV8

  5. Hey all,

So as some of you are probably aware, I haven't been on the TF2 servers in a couple of weeks. With college starting up again soon, I've needed some time to get ready and settled into a school-oriented routine again.

So what does this mean? Well basically, I probably won't be on the servers for a couple weeks further. I need to -- at least -- get through the first week of classes with no distractions (simply to start into that routine I mentioned) before I can expand my time to include fun, extracurricular activities like chilling with you guys.

I don't intend to resign from my position as moderator, and I will remain active on Steam chat, TeamSpeak and the forums throughout my hiatus from playing computer games. When I do return to TF2, I'll be pretty laden-down with school stuff, so it's likely I won't have as much time to commit to TF2 as before. Admins+, if you see fit to demote me for any of these reasons, I'll understand. But bottom line, I'm not leaving the clan anytime soon and I'll still be around to help regardless of my title.

Anyway, thought I'd give you all a heads-up. Peace.

    ~Hero

Tl;Dr Hero's gonna be inactive on the servers for a couple more weeks. Still an xG moderator, staying active on Steam chat, TS3 and forums. Will be back after school starts.

  6. Hey guys,

Basically I want a 1 for 1 swap here. I've had a copy of Left 4 Dead 2 for ages but never used it, and I'm interested in getting Terraria since a lot of my friends play it now.

If you were already thinking of purchasing L4D2 on Steam, it is $20 in the store while Terraria is only $10. Similarly, the games are considered roughly equal in value on third-party sites such as TF2 Outpost.

So yeah, if anyone's interested hit me up with a trade offer. Thanks!

  7. Server: Jailbreak

    Suggestion:

Give wardens priveleges to turn on/off colisions by a simple chat command.

A lot of games that require collisions (i.e. bumble beam) dont work simply because collisions are off and can't be turned on by any measures.

This would also solve a few more problems such as; camping in one spot with more than 3 reds, confusion to wardens caused by people stacking in one box trot taunt, stacking disabled by default

You raise a good point and I think it'd be a very helpful asset for the Warden. However, I get the sense that it's like giving noclip to moderators -- it's not essential for them to do their job, and it's an awesome power that's easy to abuse (and probably will be). So while part of me thinks it's a good idea to implement this suggestion, the other part of me is dreading the problems that will arise should such a decision be made.

I'll stay neutral on this for now. I like the concept, but if there were fewer daily abuse problems on JB1 (mass RDMs, etc.), I'd be more likely to +1 this suggestion.

  8. Hey guys,

So the other day I ran into this kid Charmander on our Trade Gaming History server. It seems like he's pretty new to the game, he's really chill and really hyped about making new friends (he's got like 4 right now). I added him and gave him a few weapons and he was ecstatic. I'd like for him to get excited about the TF2 community, so if you add him and maybe give him a weapon or something for a present that'd be awesome! Even if you just send him a friend request I'm sure he'll be totally psyched that he made a new friend. :D I'd like to see how many friends we as a community can give him!

  10. I didn't even really know this was an actual thing until I read the thread. That, and the fact that I'm expecting my wife to give birth literally at any moment, I mean...I can't exactly be on top of EVERYTHING that happens here 100% of the time.

Cut me some slack. I'm literally already trying to do everything you keep telling me to do before you even tell me to do it. Lemme do my job. =p

Congrats on the kid, man! Sorry I tagged you in the last post, you shouldn't be here to worry about this stuff right now. IRL stuff comes first. :)

  11. Thing is, though, Muselk didn't really advertise for us. He didn't give out our IP or any identifying information, just a few seconds of us doing dumb stuff for fun. There wasn't anything to worry about until someone commented on the video saying "Hey, that's us!". Even then, we didn't have to make a big deal of it. To the viewers, we could have said something like, "Hey guys, we have a Jailbreak server, we like to get a little crazy sometimes but it's all in good fun, just join our server at xxx to have a good time." Instead, some were tripping over themselves saying, "Sorry everyone had to see that, this isn't what we're about, but you should join our server anyway because we're cool except for that part!" See the difference? Don't apologize for yours or others' actions if it looks like someone might enjoy that kind of entertainment; instead, have a laugh at yourselves and make it out like we were just being silly and our servers are actually quite fun because of (rather than in spite of) the occasional silliness. Not chiding anyone, just a bit of advice for the future. :)

  12. Ok, you might be right about the vote but what about the poll we're commenting on? It's showing pretty much the same thing

Fair enough, but it's still a 60-40 split. That's hardly enough of a divide to warrant its permanent removal. I think Diabeetus' suggestion of a weekly- or biweekly-scheduled Admin Abuse Day is a good compromise -- it keeps the spirit of Jailbreak alive while still giving us the opportunity for crazy, chaotic (but controlled) fun.

  13. Here is what the server thinks:

fyi this was the vote "sm_vote 'Should the Admin Abuse Day be removed' 'Yes, its nothing but a massive clusterfuck' 'No'"

Honestly, that just the result of a spontaneous poll (with a 30-second response window, no less) of the players that were on the server at that given time. It's not indicative of the opinions of the majority of xG Jailbreak players. Besides, the "yes" response is foremost and funny while the "no" response is bland, so it's likely that some of those "yes" voters aren't giving serious thought to this. So I don't see how this is valid evidence.

Even though I've never participated, if Admin Abuse Day is as popular as I've heard then a lot of players enjoy it. Personally, I don't much care if any celebrity doesn't like what we do -- if Hillary Clinton says we're too strict on our policy against rulebreakers, does that mean we change our rules and our views to suit her opinion? No. So if the majority of our players enjoy Admin Abuse Day, then we should stick with it. Maybe we can pull way back on its frequency, but I don't think we should eliminate it entirely.

Seems like Muselk enjoyed it, actually. Some people in the comments thought it was funny, too, although most didn't even acknowledge it as an issue -- they were too wrapped up in their furry flame wars and stuff.

  14. Active on TGH, TS3 and the forums. Always has been a cool guy, but he's really shaped up and become a part of the xG community. +1

    A: 9

    M: 9

    If my count is correct, that's 13 positive vouches and 2 negatives. I think he's in. @kbraszzz @Ohstopyou @Rhododendron @Nomulous

  15. Don't we have the 2Fort map already? Definitely add Degroot Keep, it's awesome. (Now, Medieval mode removes the teammate-healing aspects from Engineers and Medics (Amputator excepted), so having it enabled lessens the likelihood of an epic "last stand" situation in Zombie Fortress. Otherwise a great idea.) The other maps look great too.

  16. Ohhhhh, this map. I hadn't seen it on an xG server but I have played it before. For the uninitiated, think Frantic but amplified. Really chaotic, slightly broken, hella fun. Oh, and it's a fruit salad of Minecraft, TF2 and Legend of Zelda elements. Best/worst idea ever, +1 for bringing it back ... but not for too long haha.

    Spoilers:

  17. Changed my mind, Frantic is absolute hell now that I'm a mod. +1 for its removal. However, I feel that Hyrule and Delfino shouldn't have been removed, as both are fun maps that a lot of players enjoy. If w+m1 Phlog crashes Hyrule, ban the Phlog on that map (or on that server if you need to, it's not that big of a loss). Delfino has no game-breaking glitches or serious exploits, it's just disliked by a minority of players. Bring these back soon pl0x.

  18. So this isn't as much of a map request as it is a map report. I was just on Deathrun a few minutes ago to resolve a calladmin issue and Hunter210 mentioned a glitch on the Dungeon map (dr_dungeon_beta) that allows you to safely skip over two traps at once. Apparently people abuse this glitch on a regular enough basis that it's a problem.

Just posting this so all the staff are aware. I'm not sure how to fix it or report it to the map creator. Maybe this map can be temporarily removed from DR until it is fixed?
