Server Ban

Information:

Regin360: I got banned for a week for speaking spanish :( This is my second ban and I know the rules. “English only” I don’t know english very well. Vacindak & ill41057 are helping me with this ban protest, because my english is not good. I received a week-long ban for saying two sentences in spanish. Vacindak told me that Kypari had given me a warning, but I couldn’t understand him. I think a week-long ban is to much… I love this server a lot

You were banned for a week because this is your second ban. We have a system where times get longer the more you get punished, to stray people from breaking the rules. Unfortunately, this kind of situation is an odd one as you might have not understood the warning you got, but you were still warned. Though since you knew it was english-only on the server, it is kind of your own fault for getting banned. I'm going to -1 for now, @Kypari lets get your side.

Doesn't matter. I have warned him in the past multiple times and he was banned previously for a day, so I went straight for a week.

A lot of people come on the server and speak their native language. Doesn't mean that you can speak it on the server.

I'm sorry to say this but Kypari is right. If he can't follow a simple rule then he should receive a punishment, even if it seems too harsh for you. It's evident that you're not a super professional English speaker, vac [and neither am I] but you speak as much English as possible and anyone else should try the same. Why'd we even have rules if we don't enforce them?

Did you warn him in his language?

He doesn't need to. We're an American community and we have a rule that says "English only". I also do not expect to be warned in German if I fuck something up. There's no way we could expect staff to [fluently] speak all languages.

Personally, I think a week is a bit too much for something that is basically not destructive at all unlike Spawnkilling and Racial slurs.

Neutral for now.

He was banned previously for a day and I have warned him multiple times, gagged, kicked, so I banned him.

We have someone who was banned permanently for a porn spray. If you say that a week is too much for something that isn't destructive we should just unban that guy and ban him for an hour every time because it's "not destructive".

You have to ban them for longer lengths otherwise they never learn. I'm sure OP understands this now but it is unfair to unban someone for breaking a rule and getting unbanned with no good reason unlike the other people that have been banned for a week.

Er, not to sound judgmental as it's not really my place to say so (not to mention I'm unfamiliar with how the TF2 Division does things), but [if my understanding is correct] if Players are being given extended ban times based on any ban they previously had, regardless of the context of the ban, that seems a tad bit excessive. Mind you, this is assuming that the Player was previously banned for speaking another language (difficult to say since the previous ban was for simply "Breaking Rules").

Given that there is no static ban time for an offense via communication aside from the 4 hours that was previously put in place for mic spammers in the somewhat-obsolete admin handbook (please correct me if there is), I'm assuming that it's dependent on the Staff dealing the ban. That being said, to ban someone from playing on the Server for a week for speaking another language seems really out-of-place, especially if the previous ban was not relevant (again, assuming) to the Player speaking another language to begin with.

I understand that Staff have to deal with a lot of stress and it gets to that point where it's easier to deal a harsher ban time to get rid of a problem Player, especially after multiple warnings; but again, banning someone for a week for speaking their native tongue because they got excited or otherwise enthused over something is hardly a reason to ban someone for that period of time. Not implying that Staff aren't already doing so, but it's good practice to put oneself in the Player's shoes before enacting a subjective ban time on such a minor offense. Revoking the Player's mic/chat privileges would have sufficed just as well (for the duration of a round, map, whatever, don't know how TF2 works) and could have been just as effective without being detrimental.

To re-iterate, I'm not questioning Staff's capability to moderate so much as I am offering my perspective from the POV of a regular Player on something that seems harsh. For this reason, I'm not going to provide a positive or negative vouch toward this Ban Protest.
