  1. I think this is only going to serve to blur our chain of command and just make things unnecessarily confusing. In fact, this reminds me a lot of when we tried to implement a rank between non-member and member about 1.5 years ago called xG-Recruit (abbreviated xG-r) in CS:S. It was supposed to designated those who had pending membership applications in order to get them as much coverage as possible. When it was implemented, it only served to confuse just about everyone and we ended up removing the rank within days of its introduction. On a slightly unrelated note, I think the biggest mistake we've made recently in terms of administrative structure is removing the leader rank. I never really understood the purpose of this change and I think it should be reversed.

  2. Seems interesting on paper, not so sure how they'll do in practice. Just to clarify, the DM's/DL's can still nominate people they think are qualified for staff too, right? I'm not super comfortable putting the responsibility of nominating mods in the hands of one person.

  3. Please refrain from posting on this thread if you are not a Community Leader, any non-Community Leader posts will be deleted.

If you haven't already read the latest entry in Saga de Vectór I would suggest you take a quick read over moosty's post and any other posts by higher ups that may have been posted after this thread is posted (here's a link to page 8, the current page of the thread). Vector's 6-month ban was changed approximately a week ago to a permanent under the presumption that the CL's had been notified and approved of said change. Since the change to his ban length was not discussed by all the Community Leaders, we can discuss it here. Additionally, the purpose of this thread is not to discuss Vector's current ban protest, but if we can quickly solve the current issue we could use this thread to discuss our thoughts on whether or not Vector should be unbanned.

My personal opinion is to keep the ban length as it was supposed to be. This is for several reasons, firstly because (to me) it's clear that Ohstopyou has a vendetta against Vector. Out of all the people to -1 his ban protest, he is the only one thus far to use personal insults or aggressive language against him (here is an example). In my opinion, everyone else who has -1'd so far has been respectful in their replies, with the exception of Ohstopyou. Plus, the fact that he was willing to attempt and bypass a proper discussion on the status of Vector's ban (by not contacting all the Community Leader's with his intentions) shows that he either does not respect having an open discussion on the subject or knew that if he presented his intentions to all the Community Leader's that it would be shut down, and intentionally only contacted two of the Community Leader's. Besides, it appears that most of the tf2 staff doesn't even support Ohstopyou's motion to edit Vector's ban to a permanent ban. I had a talk over steam with kbraszzz (here is our conversation), who said that in the conversation that Ohstopyou mentioned his intentions (this is the same as what Moosty quoted on page 8) none of the other TF2 higher-ups actually discussed his idea. Considering that both Moosty and Scootaloo +1'd Vector's ban protest, I'd imagine that they are opposed to the idea of changing Vector's ban to a permanent ban. Additionally, after talking to kbraszzz, he mentioned that he would be fine with having Vector unbanned, so long as his behavior was in-line. Once again, this seems to be in opposition to Ohstopyou's motion to extend Vector's ban to a permanent ban. Considering all of this, it appears that Ohstopyou acted in opposition to what the majority opinion was of the tf2 higher-ups in order to get Vector's ban extended. Unfortunately, Rejects has not voiced his opinion on either of the subjects from what I've seen.

Additionally, extending Vector's ban makes no sense for several reasons. Vector's behavior in the last few months has shown no evidence of becoming worse than it was at the time of his ban. In fact, if you agree with Forest's point of view, this amount of time is too short to gauge whether or not his attitude has changed at all. Since Vector is still currently banned, there is no real way to determine if Vector's in-game behavior has changed, so there is no real reason to edit his current ban (let alone extend it to being permanent).

All in all, I think that Ohstopyou has a vendetta against Vector, evidenced by his aggressive and rude behavior in Vector's ban protest and that he was willing to employ deceit in order to get what he wanted, just in case higher-ups didn't agree with him. Additionally, it appears that Ohstopyou acted in opposition to the opinions of most of the tf2 staff (evidenced by Moosty and Scootaloo's support for Vector in his ban protest, and kbraszzz relatively neutral opinion) in order to get Vector's ban extended. Due to the fact that Vector has shown no indication in his behavior that he is becoming more toxic or even any kind of threat to the well-being of our servers or community (evidenced by the fact that he hasn't been on our servers at all, he is still banned after all) there is no real reason to extend his ban. If Vector really deserves to be permed, he'll show it in his in-game behavior after his ban expires and he's allowed to play on our servers again.

  4. ... I know why the ban was changed...

From the tf2 higher up conversation, about a week or two ago.

    No personal attacks or fudgestorm.

This thread will be closed for now to avoid a derail and so [uSERGROUP=23]@Community Leader[/uSERGROUP] can reply.

    -closed for now

First things first, it should be discussed with ALL community leaders, not just nom and silence. I don't know why the ban was changed pre-empively, it looks like someone just wants to see Vector permed in my opinion.

Additionally, these secret conversations are kinda dumb. If you have something to say, especially if it involves something that was as disputed as Vector's ban, use admin discussion. We aren't a secret society, be more transparent about community issues. All higher-ups deserve to have easy access to all major community discussions.

Lastly, I'd like some more info about what's happening in this conversation. Was there an open debate about the status of Vector's ban, or was it leaning more towards a forceful imposition of one viewpoint. Screencaps of the conversation would be greatly appreciated (sent via steam or in a thread in admin discussion).

  5. From today until next Thursday I'm going to be on vacation. I'll still be on steam and forums ( I probably won't be able to respond to messages very quickly but I should answer eventually) and I may be able to get on TS a couple of times.

  6. Here's how I see it.

Vector's ban (as agreed to by Silence when there was still a "leader" rank) was reduced to a 6-month server ban, of which about ~2.5-3 months of which has gone by. If anyone thinks that this isn't the case, here is a screenshot proving my point. Unless Silence went back on his decision without notifying us while he was still leader or a secret discussion (of which every other CL is totally unaware of) was had after he became a Community Leader (along with Nomulous), this 6-month server ban still stands. If this was a permanent ban, I would absolutely +1 this and support either an immediate unban or an unban within the near future (the next 1-2 months or so). However, since his server ban is temporary (I believe it's set to expire in November) I feel that Vector should serve out the remainder of his ban. Even though this thread is only a few hours old, we've already begun to butt heads between absolute solutions for this situation. Despite this, I do think that we can come to a compromise. I would definitely be in favor of reducing Vector's server ban to one month. He still has to ride out a little bit more of a punishment, but ultimately Vector will get to play on the servers he says he's still dedicated to improving. I agree with those who have recognized Vector's improvement over the past few months. From what I've seen, he reminds me much more of the Vector I knew and worked with during my time as a mod/admin in CS:S, opposed to the overly argumentative and combative behavior he showed around the time of his ban. I feel that this improvement is enough to warrant a reduction in his ban. The only real way to prove if Vector has definitively improved is to see how he behaves over a longer period of time on our servers. Keep in mind that just because he's unbanned doesn't mean that he's immune to further punishment. If sufficient evidence is brought forth proving to the community that he is still an overwhelmingly negative force on our community and servers, a new ban (which almost certainly) will be a perm will be enacted. If Vector really is as toxic as some people say he is, this evidence shouldn't be too difficult to collect. However, keep in mind that this evidence has to have some substance to it. I don't want just a list of complaints from people butthurt that he rustled their jimmies after telling them about rules they broke, unless he was unnecessarily cruel when doing so.

All in all, I think that Vector's ban should be reduced to a month, due to recent improvement in his behavior on Teamspeak and the forums. However, if the community (not just one DL) comes to a different conclusion, I'd be fine with it.

  7. I would just have staff keep an eye on him when he's on our servers in the future. Unless substantial additional evidence of disrespectful behavior is provided soon (aka within the next day or two) I'll close this thread. One of two sentences with no context is not enough to justify a ban.

  8. Well, it's been a while, hasn't it? I still remember when you asked serbian to ban you on forums (it must have been like 3 years ago, holy moly time flies). Good to see you again.

  9. Don't do this again.

I see no way you weren't trying to provoke a response from them. I understand it was a joke. But removing a whole channel's admins/mod/ect of people you (I buttume) are not friends with is just irritating them.

Literally every post (with only one or two exceptions) beyond what Penguin said on page two should be deleted. You guys are acting like shitlords and deserve to be treated as such until I see improvement in your behavior. The fact that I gave up deleting shitposts beyond page 2 demonstrates this. Thank you Chrono for being the CL that we deserve (but not the one we need?) while I was asleep.
