  1. Alright guides are live!

It is expected for your respected division to convert the rule set over to the guides tab, so we have it all organized into one central location.

It is MUCH better for rule sets and you can check out the Teamspeak rules guide I have created.

Members will also be able to post their own guides but they must be approved by a staff member first!

All MOTDs MUST be pointing to the new link!

    @Stickz @Bleed @Lithium @Scootaloo @Ohstopyou @Hidingmaster @Nomulous @kbraszzz

  2. Actually now that I re-read this, it sounds like I'm thinking of something else. Are you just looking for something for random people to see, i.e. "We're working on this. This is our progress.", and not show any code or anything? or do you want to be able to edit and see our changes, via something like git or svn?

They can do both with the addon. Also we have a SVN for code changes and whatnot.

It allows for users to submit bug fixes and for us to report fixes and whatnot. Also allows for feature submissions and it's all in one centered place instead of all over the forum.

  3. It would be an additional $10 for anther two vultr instances. Plus you may need to register a new domain for it.

I mean, you could use it for other divisions and it would most certain massively increase download times. But it's just a lot of work uploading things to three locations. There is a physical need for it on Morbus though as tons of files need to be sent. Nuclear Dawn would most certainly utilize it as well to speed up map downloads as clients constantly play overseas there.

Free fastdls are good, but they have their limitations as to the number of clients you can get. I have seen a linear relationship as to playerbase patterns based on the fastdl location on Morbus. Chicago for instance, rarely ever has clients over 50ms due to download barriers; but, Seattle means there's about half of the clients over 50ms and generally abit less players.

It just goes back to the basic concept, nobody wants to spend over 300 seconds in loading. That's generally where the cutoff point begins when clients start dropping during loading. It's less without clearly communicating the progress with a loading screen like the crystal.

There is a physical need for it for other divisions too, ones that actually generate revenue for the community in order to cover these costs. If it can only be used for two divisions and won't solve the problem described by your issues then it's unfair for the rest of the community, wouldn't you agree? TF2 is extremely content heavy, as well as CS:GO.

  4. @Rhododendron Could you make a feature for Ban Protests where the appropriate staff of a given division are instantly notified when someone creates a ban protest? The process of manually tagging people is highly inefficient. I feel as if response times could be much faster this way.

You can subscribe to that forum and get notified of a new thread being made. Other than that I would have to look into it.

  5. @Rhododendron

I have an issue on Morbus where for every 10ms latency a client has, it adds 12.47s to their download time. By law of averages, the further the client is from Chicago is the slower the speed. This is a physical barrier limiting the amount of clients the server can reach by latency. Clients are only willing to stay in loading so long. Currently, West Coast download speeds are shooting through the roof above 300s.

Steam workshop is very unreliable, as download speeds are constantly slow and the amount of time it takes to install the addon is very unreasonable. So I cannot put anything more than 193 files (13.5mb) on workshop.

I was wonder you'd be willing to setup a small CDN over Vultr to improve client downloads. This server has become very activate and is currently limited to a range of approximately 50ms instead of 80 to 100ms. There are 1247 files each client needs to download totaling 346mb decompressed. That is excluding maps. Chicago and Los Angeles would be required and Amsterdam can be reused.

It's all about cost. How much would it cost a month and it really wouldn't be utilized by everyone since TF2 and CSGO have insane amounts of files that we use on a FastDL server for free.

  6. the removal of "division they are applying to" in the member submissions [in only the most extreme cases of idiocy did people think that you are only a member of TF2 or CS:GO, for almost literally everyone else they know that they are xG members and not xG TF2/CS:GO members. This was a nice feature that allowed simpler navigation of the member submission sub-forum to be able to see where the applicant mainly played on.]

I want to keep that, it just makes more sense to me. It also encourages reading through member submissions more.

the supposed ruling that -1s do not count. IMO as long as the -1 provides valid reasoning that they think a person could improve on to change their opinion on them, the -1 should stand and influence the total tally.

-1 still hold value. Whoever said they didn't is wrong.

the requirement that a dm+ provide a vouch it should remain as "10 +1s" but allow the DM+ vouch to be worth 5, thus creating your "5 and a dm+" option.

A dm+ vouch does not count towards the 5.

    • Added X-Accel-Redirect headers to attachments so they are served directly through the web server and not PHP. Faster website and less load on the machine (it was already extremely low but it can never be too low :3 )
    • CSS Cache live again. Serves the files through actual CSS files and not the PHP combiner.

    • Guides will be going live soon, once the fix is posted.

  7. this doesnt belong here but idk where it does

@Rhododendron for the staff submission section it should still show the division in the thread titles, it got removed when the members did and ppl dont apply for global mod

Restored a backup and fixed it :)

  8. Checked CSGO chat logs, only thing i saw of any note was a someone asking if anyone knows how to ddos and another person saying they have ddos'd before. They were wanting to ddos a specific person though.

MMMMM is that considered a bannable offense?

    • Figured out that the Steam profile JS is causing AJAX posting to stall out. Will need to look into more.
    • Added Documents addon for rules and guides. Will allow members+ to post their own for credits and whatnot. Need to configure soon.
    • Changed Documents name to Guides to better reflect what we are using.

  9. I'll post updates here, and you can report any bugs here! Would help greatly :)

    • Moved nginx cache to ramdisk for both FastCGI and Proxy.
    • Updated OpenSSL to patch due to vulnerability.
    • Updated Teamspeak3 Server to 3.0.12.
    • nginx configs reformatted to remove some params that were being loaded multiple times.
    • Disabled PHP version header being checked for security purposes.

  10. "Store" he says. @Rhododendron

I dont see the inactivity here honestly, I think we do pretty well although TF2 fudgeposting does account for a good bit of it. I blame @Scootaloo for that naturally.

Also, a good idea would be to have the "store" (soontm) to maybe unlock at 40-50 posts for a user?

The credits system should be used as well, like @Nomulous said the only way people are going to use something that much would be incentives.

Also, thanks for tagging me as @ShackNewsBot.

The new store was released on XF a few days ago, he's coding up some developer features I need and will be releasing an update soon. Overall it has a crap load out of the box so it should be good :)

  11. Get something for free for a forum signup and reimplement the credit per post system probably, you need incentives

I was thinking of making the store only available to forum users. So you would have to sign-up for the forum to use the store.
