Hands on meaning a competition on a game or something that involves being put up against another User/Member. For example, a tournament on League of Legends or a competition of skill like who can progress the furthest on a Bhop Server for a different game, etc.
  2. Ahh, gotcha. The thing is that we can only base our judgement off of how they are on the forums, which is all fine and dandy if you're asking for opinions on them on forums. Though the way someone is on Forums doesn't reflect their know-how while on the field, so to speak; so I can't really give any input on whether they should be a Moderator ingame. If that's the case (that is, they're to be forum moderators) I'll take a look and provide my own personal opinion some time this week :coffee:
  3. Er, could you elaborate on what you mean? Are you asking if any of them are "moderator worthy" here at XenoGamers? Or are you asking if they are worthy on that particular Forum. I'm ássuming it is the latter due to the title of this thread, but I'd like to know for the sake of clarity.

I have done this in the past where entries required donations, but there aren't enough people willing to donate 5$ for a prize. If I recall correctly, the most successful one I did only had around 10+ people in it, if even that. I don't mind contributing for community-based events at all, which is what I'm going for with these. Once this has gathered a large bulk of people willing to participate, then I'll start letting people know of any upcoming challenges/competitions/raffles in the Steam Group.

I just wanted to see what the community would prefer for the next Giveaway (TBA). The last one was a mental challenge, one that required thinking outside of the box as well as identifying objects. The only reason I selected this type of challenge was that it was fair to everyone. It didn't favour anyone's skills or whatever (much like a friendly competition of Bhop or a match in League would) so it was a good contest for the general population. Whether it was successful or not is up to you guys. Would you like to see the next challenge be as mentally stimulating as this one, or would you prefer a more.. Hands on competition (in terms of playing an actual game, or doing an actual activity), so to speak. I really would like to see what you all would prefer, as doing the same sort of thing every time can get stale. Discussions and suggestions are all welcome, provided they are relevant to the current topic at hand!

    50$ Game Giveaway

Alright folks, ladies and gentlemen, scrubs and plebs, the time has come to announce the winner! Now, before I go on I'd like to mention that most (if not all) riddles should not be taken literally, as is the case with the riddle I mentioned in the original post. So, without further ado ... The winner of this particular competition is ... Drumroll please! @Goblins ! To be perfectly clear, I will now state why Goblins was the winner by dissecting the riddle, sentence by sentence. The answer was the Air Conditioner. "I am Green and Sometimes I'm not." This part of the riddle was taken far too literally, and to ease the minds of many, that image was not photoshopped or tampered with in any way. The figure that you saw in the reflection was in fact a Yoshi plushie, however it was positioned behind the TV in a way that it could not be seen with the sole intention to trick those who thought it was "hidden in plain sight" which it was not. Anywho, this was hint #1. The Air Conditioner (which in this case is also a fan, I apologize that it was unfair as that isn't something that would have been known) is green in that using the fan option not only saves power, but also does not produce Greenhouse Gases. Therefore, it is Green (environmentally) and sometimes it is not. "I Consume many Things, and you Know me Well." Not only does this hefty object consume a lot of power, but it also results in a lot of money spent through hydro as well as taking up a lot of space since it is not a wall-mounted A/C, thereby consuming many things. These things are pretty well known, I'm not sure if anyone hasn't heard of one. This one is self explanatory. Literally right there in the picture. The last portion of this part was accurate as no one seemed to pick up on any of the hints. Again, self explanatory. Not to be taken literally, but to be taken in that it is incredibly easy to spot. Anyways, congratulations to Goblins on winning this particular competition. I may end up doing another competition like this in the future, so stay posted! @ASock ;)
  9. I feel like you ought to elaborate a little more on some of these "questions". Not quite sure what some of these are asking for (IE. #2 on set 1 doesn't elaborate on what you're supposed to do, so I can only assume it's a "what's next" sort of thing).

    50$ Game Giveaway

Title says it all. I'll be giving a game to the lucky winner of this little.. Competition, for a lack of better words. The game will be one of his/her choice (up to a maximum of 50$, no more), or, alternatively, I can transfer the funds to a PayPal account for the winner to spend on whatever he/she wants (Riot points, gift cards, sex toys, whatever floats his/her boat). Alright, so- Hey. Shut up. I'm getting to it already, calm your tits. I know you want that free game, so stop saying "Hurry the hell up you british twat, what do we have to do?!" and let me finish. Jesus. Okay, so. Obviously I won't just be handing you this game on a silver platter. You'll have to work for it, much like anyone else. Oh, boo-hoo, you have to work for something for once, it's the end of the bloody world as we know it. I swear, y'all are getting lazier and lazier. Here's what I'm thinking. Obviously my last thread didn't go quite as planned, there weren't many people too enthused about a free game/games (which is actually surprising), or you people are just unimaginative as hell. Either way, here is how things are going to go down, and don't worry; I promise this won't be too difficult and will require very little brain activity. God knows some of you need to cherish that stuff ;) This will be a simple game of identification. Simply put, I'm going to attach an image to this post; one that includes a multitude of items. Your job, your very simple job, is to determine what particular item I am referring to, or rather, what item it is that I am talking about. That's it. That's all you have to do. Sound easy? Well, we'll see about that (it really is). Now, here are the rules: 1. You have until August 7th (at this very same time) to determine what the object/item is. 2. You each have only two guesses until the end of this little "competition". 3. In order to be eligible for a prize, you must have been a Registered Member for at least two months. 4. I will not determine who the winner is until the end date. Obviously, the winner is the first person to guess the item/object. 5. Don't ask me for hints, because I will only provide one which will be bolded at the bottom of this post. 6. Should no one be able to determine the object/item, whoever is closest will receive the prize. 7. Last and most importantly.. Have fun! Or not, it's completely up to you. I am Green and Sometimes I'm not. I Consume many Things, and you Know me Well. Yet although I'm Hidden in Plain Sight, I am confident you won't find me. I See You, but do You See me?
  12. Can't provide proper input until I've actually logged some time onto CS:GO (assuming this is for the CS:GO Division), so I'll stick with a +/-0. This guy was a pretty damn good Staff Member back in the day in that he was fair and just and knew how to deal with touchy situations such as who should and shouldn't be CT banned, among other things. Although he is familiar with the rules (those in CS:S, not sure about CS:GO) we did experience quite a bit of inactivity from him, which he will have to make up by playing frequently on Servers, especially to be given that Staff position ;) . All in all though, DPP is a great guy who isn't all about being a rule nazi. He has a great positive attitude, and does bring a sense of fun to the Servers as well as to our very own TeamSpeak Server. While I personally cannot say whether he should or shouldn't be Staff, I can certainly say that it wouldn't hurt to have him as a Moderator, given his track record of being a fun guy 90% of the time, and being strict when a situation calls for it. M: 7/10 A: ?/10 D: +/-0 until further notice (for reasons mentioned above).

    Duke

+/-0, but only because I'm not active enough in the Division being applied for to give a legitimate vouch. This guy was one of the older gents of XenoGamers whom I was first acquainted with. You know, before the cancer set in (Jk, I love xG). Needless to say he was (and still is) a great guy to hang out with and has a great sense of humour. He is also just a generally good friend to have, so I strongly suggest getting to know the guy for those of you who don't know him. Now, as I mentioned earlier, I can't vouch for activity and all that, but I can vouch for his maturity. Unlike countless other Members/Players, Duke has the capability to keep a level-head in heated discussions or other hostile environments, which is always a fantastic trait to have. Though this isn't always the case, he does state his opinion (albeit in a blunt manner at times) but he does so without upright ridiculing or stating the others' opinion as false. His experience on the Servers also goes hand-in-hand with this application, showing that he is capable of upholding rules and the like in a professional manner. Again, this is all based off of past experience with Duke and as such I cannot provide a legitimate vouch. I'm hoping to log in some more hours on CS:GO so that I can provide some more input (maybe some time on TeamSpeak as well), but until then I'll remain at a +/-0, though strongly leaning toward a 1-up :coffee: M: 8/10 A: ?/10 D: +/-0 until further notice.
  14. What. I liked it too. All that it was missing was a disco, which I still think should be added in V2 ;)
  15. Guess I better brush up on.. Well, everything rule related.
  16. Didn't read most of this thread, on account of it being late at night. May or may not check it out later, but I did want to give my input in a short manner (who am I kidding, that's a flat out lie). Just to be clear, if I'm making points that have already been made, I apologize in advance. I also apologize if what I say either doesn't make sense, or is going in a complete cycle as it is 12 AM while I am writing this. As always, don't expect a reply or anything should you choose to poke at anything mentioned below as I do have things going on (plus I'm just a Member so this is all merely opinion. Sort of). For reference, I'll write this out in the form of three paragraphs; - A brief description of Community Leaders, - What they do and do not influence/their stance in XenoGamers - The actual topic at hand which seems to have nearly lost its way. So, without further ado ... - - - It is not the duty of the Community Leader(s) to monitor Servers or to monitor Members/Players within those Servers. The concept of Community Leader is just that; a Leader for the Community, which does happen to revolve around a lot of forum activity. Serb and I had in mind a rank whose concerns would revolve around clan relations or other large discussions that influenced XenoGamers as a whole. That is the sole reason they do not have any sort of crazy permissions (IE. ban/slay/slap/etc) within any Server; however, they do still have the final say in most cases. Cont'd This was to ensure that there is some sort of structure that can over-rule certain implementations or otherwise wrongful additions. It's difficult to describe, but the CLs both have power, and do not have power. - - - There are certain limitations in what they influence, and Promotions/Demotions aren't one of them for the sole reason that they are not required to be active on a particular Division to make any sort of call whether someone should or shouldn't be promoted/demoted. To recap, the responsibility of a Division Manager is to, well, manage the Division. This includes managing a Division's Staff, Member Applications, etc. The responsibility of the Division Leader is to maintain the Server(s) that pertain to that Division while also ensuring that the Division Manager(s) aren't simply promoting/demoting people out of favoritism. While the job of the newly enacted Community Leaders was vague, they were never meant to be in charge of these tasks. The Division Leader(s) and Manager(s) are tasked with keeping their own Division neat and tidy and if there is anyone that is to blame (provided it involves specifics mentioned above. Sorry guys) it's them. Cont'd Those of you who are blaming the Community Leaders for any sort of promotions or demotions need to be aware that they do not make the decision of who should/shouldn't be promoted/demoted (in a manner of speaking). They simply compile a list that is given to them from Division Leaders, and relay it through our bi-weekly Promo/Demo. Their title entails them to make sure the community (as a whole) stays afloat, (which in itself is a daunting task. Trust me, I know). Now, the only real problem here is when our beloved Community Leaders promote someone to a Division Leader/Manager position and it turns out that person is lacking in proper.. Qualifications. At this point it becomes a problem for everyone, but this is why we (Serb and I) promoted a group of five into a position of power; so that they may discuss amongst themselves whether someone fits the description. Unfortunately, there is something that a lot of people seem to forget; people have lives outside of gaming. Hell, if you knew me well, you'd know that I devoted a serious chunk of my time toward Counter-Strike: Source and trying to improve XenoGamers as a whole. I can tell you right now that it isn't a cakewalk to take the helm of a gaming community this large while juggling your personal life. They're bound to make mistakes, and they're bound to make hasty decisions or to cut corners. Do keep in mind that these guys are dedicating a fair amount of their psyche (for free, mind you) to manage things as best they can. It isn't so much the fact that they aren't willing to help XenoGamers grow, it's that doing this sort of thing demands a lot out of someone. It would be best to actively find suitable replacements, but looking for someone to fill these shoes isn't as easy as you think it is. - - - From my understanding, the payments for some of these Divisions work as a sort of group; removing Servers doesn't result in a cheaper alternative, it just wastes a good Server that could be utilized (correct me if I'm wrong). With that said, I completely agree that those of you in a position of power for a "dead" Division should be working toward reviving it in some way. If that isn't something you're willing to do, step down and move on, but don't sit there jerking your dick off waiting for someone else to improve the Servers. I get that personal life is a factor here as well, but if that's the case just step down. Seriously, you aren't doing that particular Server any good by not trying to revive it. Obviously this doesn't apply to those of you who literally can't do anything (IE. Servers are down, aren't working at all). If this is the case, go harass the Division Leader of that Division into doing something about it, or post a Member Protest (literally protest about their doing nothing); but at the same time keep in mind that they do have a life outside of XenoGamers and that they are doing this for free. - Dat guy, Forest This incredibly lengthy post is brought to you by Forest, rambling and ranting with TL;DR posts since 2012.
  17. The dream of a council-based rank is dissolving ever so slowly. Our (Serb and I) fevered dream will eventually wilt and die out, though I will still believe. For real though, I understand where you're coming from completely. Sometimes it just gets overwhelming; to the point of not being sure what you should and shouldn't do for the community. Props to anyone in this position, as it isn't one for the light-hearted.
  18. Well, there you have it. Give the guy a slap on the wrist and monitor his behaviour ingame. If he keeps acting up, demote him. We all know that Paid Staff have a much shorter leash (so to speak) than those who actually earned the rank. Though I am just as interested as diabeetus in knowing how someone who was demoted from Paid Moderator was able to pay for it again. I get that there are financial problems, but if someone starts slaying everyone (over exaggeration) and is promptly demoted, they shouldn't be allowed to pay for a rank again. With that said, I strongly insist that the higher-ups ([uSERGROUP=23]@Community Leader[/uSERGROUP] ) consider the notion of terminating any instances in which Players/Members are allowed to pay for a Paid rank more than once. If financial problems are truly that bad, then at the very least consider increasing the amount required by first/second/etc time offenders for a Paid rank (IE. additional 20$) so they aren't just let off the hook so easily. In regards to the Report Abuse thread, I have nothing to contribute besides what was mentioned above. +/-0.
  19. Don't even get me started. #Triggered
  20. Find someone who can code this thing together, or toss out a link to an existing version of this, because as great as this idea seems; it just isn't something that will happen without the aforementioned conditions being met. As previously mentioned by Shadowspy, the difficult part is finding someone who can piece this thing together without asking for anything in return. Hell, we couldn't even get hub up and running again on CS:S. #NeverForgetHub
