Plugin here: GitHub - fwdcp/random-melee-crits: A plugin for SourceMod that disables random crits on all weapons except for melee weapons. So here I was, watching a Sirky video, when I was reminded of one of his balancing suggestions. I thought to myself, "Hey, I wonder if a plug-in actually exists for this?" when lo and behold... Anyway, I was looking for some kind of compromise. Random crits benefit classes such as Soldier and Demo way more than other classes, to the point of it being stupid, but even classes with a shotgun sometimes get the random benefit of being able to snipe someone for 180 damage a mile away or something. In short, random crits on guns are stupid, you literally just randomly deal more damage occasionally for no reason. Take it from someone who spawncamps frequently, allowing me to just shoot a rocket and randomly deal three times it's normal damage in a wide radius is actually stupid. When I discussed this with people like Shwoosh however, he talked about how he would miss stupid stuff like stickyjumping into someone with a pan and """market-gardenering""" them. At the time I agreed, I assumed random crits were just the price we had to pay for really stupid fun stuff like escape-plan battles and medic-chaining. There's also significant risk in fishing for a crit with a melee weapon, as melee tends to be the absolute worst weapon slot in the game, having limited range and windup, so you actually are trading potential safety in using your gun for the ability to random crit. I think this plug in would satisfy both sides. Soldiers and Demos would no longer be able to wipe your team in spawn by shooting one lucky rocket or sticky, but at the same time we'd preserve the ability to do things like ubersaw critting and the "market pardner". Thoughts?

    Enable Objectives?

Well, think about why so many people are on a trade server but not actually trading in the first place. If they want objectives, they could just play casual mode or even TF2center. I think it's because the trade servers provide a place to sort of relax and wind down. You could be fighting one minute and then making a huge dancing line the next. While enabling objectives would be fun and all, it might also detract from this experience. Just something to consider.

what the heck no -1 this is understandable, as it does happen, but then you say that just kind of makes that argument irrelevant. if you want crits taken away, and say it "only for specific op classes" not only is that very situational but also biased. while your backup is true, melee is not always the worst weapon in the game, and if you are fishing for crits instead of battling normally then you aren't playing the game properly. same for disabling crits but anywho, see; second and third opposing arguments. this thread might be seen as a godsend, but honestly this is a futile change for only the people who want specific changes for "muh competition".

Your previous response begs to differ. You stated that Windows was open source which is just wrong. You're also correlating anything open source to be extremely vulnerable which is not always the case and a double edged sword. Okay, none of that makes any sense because you're talking about browsers for android which are mostly closed source. So how are you correlating getting a virus on a closed source browser to be the fault of the particular android's OS being open source? Are you referring to flaws in the OS being abused or the browser? Do you have context or citations if it is the operating systems fault? This snippet of your post jumps around everywhere and doesn't sound very intelligent. What is the definition of "it's" in this case? Are you referring to android or the browser? You are referring to a browser in your post. This conversation was about an operating system, not an application. Is it possible you are not actually qualified and your time taking "Networking Systems Administration" for 3 years has in-fact not taught you anything on the matter at hand?

Yeah no, windows is not open source. I don't think you're qualified to talk about security, let alone let that base your argument on why iOS is better. You're like that kid who learns a new buzz word (open/closed source) and then goes to school just to impulsively drop said buzzwords everywhere. If your only argument is security then you don't actually have any rationale as to why either iOS would be better than {insert OS here}. You'll probably do some google research before responding to this, but my point was already proven by all your silly little posts in this thread thus far.

iOS 11 was a bit a of a shocker UI wise. I don't think it's that bad. Still exploring the whole update though. Best thing so far is the App Store by far.

Yes, believe it or not, weapons that have falloff as their main method of lowing ranged damage, are actually very good when you triple the total damage, and then apply no falloff, as it's a single projectile that will go exactly where you aim it with no random spread as well as a blast radius. My second statement has no such effect on my argument. Saying "Random crits are really really good on these classes, and are only pretty good on these classes" doesn't invalidate the fact that they work more in the favor of some classes than others, even if they can overall benefit all. This is also ignoring the fact that some classes such as sniper have no chance for a random crit on their primary (and most-used) weapon. Melee is always the worst weapon due to inconsistent hitreg, rather low damage output (generally 65), and windup time. Why would you ever use melee to deal 65 when almost every other primary in the game can deal hundreds of damage at the same range? Melee is either meant to be a last-resort when you run out of ammo (which is ideally never if you play well), is used as a utility (in cases such as the escape plan and disciplinary action), or finally, is a powerful hat-trick designed to surprise unaware enemies (like the market gardener, spy's knife, etc.).It is however almost never the ideal way to combat most enemies, and in cases where it's used as such, it tends to result in a one-trick pony who immediately dies (spy) or just a bad loadout (full demoknight, trolldier). What this has to do with my argument is beyond me, it seems like a red herring, but eh. And people can fish for melee crits due to the way damage increases the chance to crit and whatnot, whether or not it's the ideal way to play is irrelevant. The game is properly played without crits as evidenced by every single LAN tournament to ever happen in existence as well as Valve's comp mode. Ya, believe it or not I'd prefer to have fights that are actually fair on the servers that are about 98% DM and 2% people actually trading. People other than I tend to see melee crits as "more fun" than crits from a ranged weapon (as evidenced by the amount of complaining you see when you kill someone with a ranged weapon). Ideally I'd like to remove all crits but we've had votes on such before and they've failed, so this is me trying for a compromise. Melee is ineffective anyway, so if people really think critting some idiot with a wrench is fun, whatever they can have it, but I'd still like to try and remove the more egregious elements of the mechanic.

    Enable Objectives?

It's fun when you're competing, yeah, otherwise it's just mindless DM (Like what we have now). My point is not that enabling points makes the experience any less fun, it just adds nothing atm.

    Enable Objectives?

Yeah, idk if you've ever played the game Team Fortress 2 before Kypari, but people tend to not like the "random" elements of the game (to the point of we ourselves removing random spread), and also evidenced by there being multiple binds mockingly stating that random crits are "fair and balanced". Just because the devs fucked up and continue supporting their fuck up doesn't mean it's a valuable contribution to the game. The only reason you'd want to enable objectives at all is if you want to have some kind of competition, and competition is pointless if it's left to random chance. Just fyi I voted to enable objectives because idc, but my point was that it's pointless. If you didn't really win a round through your own skill it's no different than just not having won the round at all. There's no reward in just relying on rng gods to give you some advantage.

Actually, I am qualified. I took Networking Systems Administrations for 3 years. I have the A+ Certification book on my computer and I’ve known a lot about computers even before taking the class. If anything, your terrible excuse for a decent response is the only ‘silly’ thing in here along with your pure consistent arrogance. Get back to me when you aren’t going to be a nuisance in all of your responses on my threads and actually have something intelligent to respond with. Thanks :coffee:

But what do you base that on though, if its the fact that you can only download things from the appstore then you can also do that on android, where you have the option to toggle on/off an option called "download from trusted sources only"

    Enable Objectives?

Uhh...not everything has to be competitive you know... Pub servers have random crits and objectives in the first place and who cares if it's not competitive? The only example I can think of is lava giant. For anyone who doesn't know, Lava Giant is a CTF map and if you noclip from one spawn to the other, you can just cap over and over and win the game, which obviously isn't very fun. If it's possible to make it so that the flags are turned on but you can't win on that map only but you can on the others that would be neat. Otherwise, I'd personally rather have the round come to an abrupt end when someone rolls noclip than have no objectives for any map at all.

Apple is becoming so secure that jailbreaking is almost obsolete, and that is saying something. That option is only on macOS, this thread is based on iOS. I'm mainly talking about browsers and what apps can actually control on your device. If you get a virus on your browser on android, you are most likely in deep doodoo until you find a way to get rid of it as it's open source like windows and windows is vulnerable as heck. Your computer will die with a simple deletion of one folder. macOS on the other hand does not allow you to delete or config those critical files unless an authorized Apple tech. Yes'm, this went off topic a bit but I was explaining the security feature between open and closed source. iOS is closed source so not many people attempt to make exploits that grab info as people do to open source systems. Yes, Samsung is good for if you like having more "open area" for apps, but if you want to use something that is a lot more secure then Apple is your system. Security is worth the price.
