Vargas reacted to Aegean in The roles of staff in our servers and community
This stems from the 2 disputes that happened last week from the TF2 community but is still a good piece of discussion even by itself.

First of all, our servers are meant to be a place for everyone in our community and people who visit our servers to have fun. I'm going to try to break down what we used to do and what I feel is sometimes not reflected in our community anymore.

Whenever we were on CSS, CS:GO or TF2, (even before I was Co-leader) issues obviously occurred. Sometimes we had a free-killer on the server, or a guard + prisoner arguing etc. The role of the staff should be right away to fix the problem WHILE keeping the servers interests in mind.

If someone got freekilled, we would also message them after slaying; if we know it was a freekill (either via voice, all chat, or pm)
"Hey man, you got slayed cuz you freekilled X during this game. If you get too close to them, they are allowed to knife since you are baiting, so you freekilled. You're not getting banned, just wanted to let you know to be careful and read the rules"

This lets you not only resolve the problem and let the server know you are doing right by punishing them, but the person who broke the rules understands exactly what happens, and lets them have another go at our server without feeling alienated.

There are PLENTY of situations that you (as staff) are not there for, but still need to resolve to help out the server. You should always be willing to communicate with BOTH parties, and get a good compromise or to punish them fairly if you don't feel there's anything more you can do to resolve this in an easy manner. Ask them one at a time what the issue is, gag/mute one of them if they aren't letting the other talk, after hearing both their stories, ask witnesses or look at chat logs and see what's going on.

The whole point of us punishing a person in our servers (Not perm punishments) is for the SOLE reason that we want to reform them. We don't week ban people first offense, just so they never come back again. That's not the point of our mutes, gags, bans. It's to teach people that their (repeated) offenses aren't okay here, and that we want everyone to enjoy their time here.

TL;DR for people who want a simple explanation, staff are not ban-bots programmed to ban anyone and everyone out of line, it's to fix any issues that people are having, and even if someone has previous offenses, if you can resolve a problem without banning, and the server is happy, then you are doing the right thing. You are there to ensure people (including you) have fun in our servers, and that no one is trying to ruin it for others.

First point still applies then. He's still been a known issue on the server for some time now and he eventually got banned for it and the last ban was a day.

Vargas reacted to Vexx in Sylux - Team Fortress 2
Unfortunately, I only remember being told about that whole "alternate account racism" thing but don't exactly remember what happened or if it was even really his alt. The last ban you got for disrespect or "trolling" was last year, and that was only a day. Don't exactly understand the jump to a month ban, even if he had older bans for longer. As for Zack, I do know he's quite the toxic guy when he is on the server. I am honestly surprised in you guys only giving him a gag instead of a ban as well. From what I read there was a warning and it stopped there, so I don't exactly know why you guys did jump to a ban as quickly as you did without even kicking him beforehand. I do feel as though there is some unfairness in how the situation was handled, even if Sylux has a "history", Zack should be punished exactly the same.

+1 to drop the ban to at least a week, if not completely.
+1 to punish Zack with the same length, they're both in the wrong and should be treated with the same punishment for fairness.

Yeah, i deeply apologize for my rude behavior. I was on my limit of still getting picked on and nobody would've listined, even staff members know about this issue and they deny it. But, i am fine with getting kicked off Xeno since i quited Tf2 in a whole, and found peace at single player games and will no longer bother people on Xeno and such. Again, i just cannot take it that people lie and won't listen to me.

Ok i'm going to make a question for everyone who knows about the surf server.
what would you do if you saw a spawnkiller? .......
the correct answer if you are not part of the staff crew is..!CALLADMIN.

I was in other XG servers before THG , Deathrun , jailbreak( now death), VHS , etc.
In my point of view ,the surf server is the most dificult to handle.
Probably you are saying why? well, at the surf server you can not spawnkilling , you can not put any building at spawn
you can not sniping or shotting from spawn and you can not cptele away from the fight.
we normaly have 2 or 3 spawnkillers per 10 minutes. and 3 or 5 bans per day.
apart from that we have always a mic spamer or a tipical toxic guy. so
for me as an admin. is not only enforce the rules at the server is also keep that environment good and enjoyable to get fun in a healthy way

We need more Hands to handle it. we need a staff with experience. we need a staff who knows perfectly well the rules.
and knows to make a good and enjoyable environment.

skelly was an admin and that's mean he was a trusted staff member before.
you need to be good staff to get that position. not everyone can get admin just easy.
i know he stepped down and to be honest for me it feel soon but i'm not going to lie. actually i was afraid he is going to step down once again.
but in this two weeks he showed me he is going serious.

Vargas reacted to Atamo in A Open Discussion About Teamspeak (Please read if you're staff)
Hey not staff but I'm quite familiar with both platforms (I used TS for a long while in the past and have now moved over to Discord)
I think TS is a dying platform, without visual appeal, I gotta say I never enjoyed being on a team speak server when I was on one, people say it's just as easy as Discord, which isn't true, it can be more confusing easily.
Not sure why someone having multiple administrative ranks displayed is really all that important, because in discord you can do the exact same thing, however it only shows one rank/tag at a time unless you click a user and choose to *view roles/ranks* or rather, check with your eyes

So another big point I've seen being made in here (that someone hasn't already explained) is the idea of getting credits/little icons? this is a very personal problem, I doubt the majority is to concerned about making 1 credit for 1 minute of voice chat time, or rather if they have small cosmetic icons, I mean there isn't any form of equivalence in Discord I agree with this, however you could decide to make custom emojis for higher ups (for instance a mod gets one emoji and a admin gets another).

My last point is directed at people who either don't have the ability to use a microphone or don't own one, Discord is much more text chat friendly, messages feel more fluid and send with a more impact feel and they're more visually appealing

Vargas reacted to realBelloWaldi in A Open Discussion About Teamspeak (Please read if you're staff)
I'm gonna be real here. The reason why I don't use TeamSpeak that much is because I simply don't wanna talk to people.
If I'm playing games, I wanna focus on games [unless I'm playing with real life friends] and if I'm doing something else, I don't wanna talk to people that are basically strangers to me.
    >But you are a higher up!!!
Yes, very true. I'm not saying my argument is legitimate here, but that's the reason. Of course I have joined staff meetings and private higher up chats before and I have no problem with that, but I generally simply don't wanna talk to people that I don't really know.
This does not imply that I'm not using TS at all. Before I went on that trip, I was there for at least a few hours everyday to play with my irl friends. Even @xCabrio joined at some point. I'm just saying that I personally dislike it.
EDIT: In response to Chrono: I have been a lot on TeamSpeak with my irl friends recently. You must have missed me, which is kinda not avoidable since I'm going to school and I live in a different time zone.

    Initial Thoughts:
After spending hours during the summer doing nothing and finding something to play, i wanted a game to play that would captivate me as much as Persona did. A game with good story, great characters and fun gameplay. I first heard of the series from @Kyuubey and he wanted me to play it really badly after i was discussing games i wanted to play. It turns out multiple friends of mine had played it and really enjoyed. After some convincing from @Sesh, @Kypari, and @Kyuubey i said fuck it and started playing. It was a pleasent experience and one ride that i was glad to be a part of, with some minor bumps in the road.

    Gameplay and Story:
The story tells of students who attend a school named "Hope's Peak Academy". In this school, you must be the best of the best in what you do, for example, a student is given the title "The Ultimate (activity here)" these include The Ultimate Lucky student, The Ultimate Pop sensation, The Ultimate Programmer, and so on.

Your main protagonist is Makoto Naegi, a student who is selected at random to join Hope's Peak academy, allowing 1 random student who has no special ability to join the school thus deeming him the Ultimate Lucky Student. Soon, you are found unconcious after walking a few steps into the school and you meet your main antagonist, Monokuma, who says they must either live there forever or kill someone, and not get caught and convicted in a trial by your peers to leave the school (the rest of the students who fail the trial die).

The gameplay of this game is divided between the free time, investigation, and class trial. Free time, is essentially that, free time you can use to either go to sleep to get to the next event, or you can use to spend time with your fellow students and get to know them more. After perhaps your favorite student dies you will be given time to find ALL evidence relevant to the trial whether it be how the victim died, what the perpatrator used as a weapon and so on. Do not worry about not finding any evidence, the game will not proceed to the trial until you found EVERY piece of evidence relevant to the case.

Class trials are where you use your evidence to uncover who the killer is in your group. You use truth bullets (your evidence) to fire bullets at statements to counter the story when you notice a contradiction in their statements. The trials have a few mini games, including the one mentioned before, and the game brings more and more challenges to said mini games as you progress through your deadly school life.

    Pros: (At least 2 reasons)
The game's art style is really unique. Everyone looks like they are made of cardboard and while that may sound like a negative it really enhances everything and is quite refreshing to look at.

The soundtrack of this game is also phenominal, when executions happen you really feel the dread of certain people who are sent to their doom (i won't post for fear of spoilers), and even after completing the anime, the game, it's sequel and prequel/sequel i have it stuck in my head.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V61l6A3_6uA

The gameplay can be either very fun or very frustrating depending on the case however it really requires you to use your head and that is refreshing. the closes comparison i can think of is Pheonix wright.

Most of the characters are interesting. Some you may start out disliking, you could be missing by the end of the game or they get better as the game goes along and that is very rare, especially for characters who might seem a bit boring when you first meet them.

There is a lot of story and a lot of content including a School mode included in the PC version and Vita version. Essentially this is a What If? story that's non-canon and is unlocked after completing the first game. It's pretty much a resource gathering/Dating Sim where no one dies and is just there for fun. So have fun trying to bang your waifu while creating dolls for Monokuma.

    Cons: (At least 2 reasons)
After a case is complete, new class rooms open up such as the Dojo, Piano room, Etc etc and they are obviously there for future cases. Many of the rooms you see you will never return after completing a case. For example, in chapter 3 you can go into the rec room, and it's very important in the next case, however after that, there's no point in going in there. I wish there were some activity in each room rather than just being there just to further the next case. The washing room is never used, not once. (at least from what i can remember), it's just there to be an explanation for why kids keep their clothes clean (some don't even use it).

I don't even know why you need certain gifts, nor do i really understand them. Basically you can give gifts to people you hang out with during free time to boost their relationship with them to get new skills that will be useful in trials later on. But even then, when you give a gift to someone, there is hardly any difference especially when you give them a gift they love and like and even then i believe you can still get the skills by just hanging out with them and not giving them anything. Keep in mind this criticism is for the main game, i'm sure they mean more in school mode ( i haven't played it thoroughly but i will eventually).

As i mentioned before, you have to be very precise on what you use your truth bullets on because while in your head the certain counter point may make sense in your head, chances are they aren't. While you can argue back and forth about this being a con, my only complaint is that some of these bullets can sound correct but in the end are wrong so you have to keep guessing. Be very careful.

    Final Thoughts:
You will get frustrated. Especially if you see a character you like die very early, but keep moving forward! its very much worth it in the end. By the end of the first game i was hooked and i had to play the sequel, the prequel/sequel and watch the anime. And as i said before THIS SERIES WILL FRUSTRATE YOU. Just remember to have fun with it and when you beat the game, you can play school mode and hang out with your favorite waifu or bro.

Thank you for reading my review. Hope you enjoyed the game like i did.

REMEMBER DO NOT LOOK UP ANYTHING ABOUT THE STORY OR CHARACTERS, YOU MAY AS WELL GO IN BLINDLY SO YOU WON'T BE SPOILED.

For anyone that says Skelly wants mod back too soon, it doesnt matter. He was getting very bored of tf2 and everytime he got on a server it felt like a chore for him. he needed to take a break to make tf2 feel fresh for him again, and his break was very short. He's playing surf, tgh, and pokemon trade a lot now. He's playing almost every day.
