  1. As a former staff member who was around when Caleb signed on to the team, I wholeheartedly agree he should be considered for admin again. Very competent mod/admin/DM, friendly guy, fun to chill with.

    A huge +1 from me.

  2. Clickclockwood and Freezypeaks were notoriously irritating because of the extreme lag. Interesting maps to be sure but the delay often prompted me to swap to Pokemon Trade.

Oh, and Bunker is only fun for the side that isn't getting camped that round.

Edit: Why am I still tagged as a server mod? Incentive to return? ? @realBelloWaldi

  3. I think we already have a bunch of Goldenrod maps on the pokemon server already (enough to have had a vote to remove one of the extras).

Yeah, just throwing that out there. I agree there are too many as it is, but I just wondered if this would be preferable to one of the others we currently have. Thanks for clarifying!

  4. This thread hasn't been touched in almost two years. Wut.

Okay, so recently I was comparing the number of maps on other servers to those on Pokemon Trade. Surf has almost 40. TGH has almost 50. Pokemon has . . . 6. I understand that Poketrade has a very narrow theme and not everyone is champing at the bit to make a Pokemon map, but we have three Goldenrod maps, two Ecruteak maps, and Sylux's custom map. So I'm proposing a few more. I don't know if they have any crippling map glitches as I don't have my own test server, but here's hoping we get a bit more variation. :D

Lavender Town (and Routes 8 and 10) Pokemon FRLG: Lavender Town | Team Fortress 2 Maps

Saffron City (CPs can always be disabled) Steam Workshop :: Saffron City (Pokemon)

Another Saffron City map (can't tell if it's the same one) pkmn saffroncity b3 (Team Fortress 2)

Victory Road (Payload optional) pl_victoryroad_b1a (Team Fortress 2)

    Thoughts?

  5. The map itself as you said might not be related to any game in particular just as Mascc or Cyberpunk I myself am still wondering how those two made it on the server...

Cyberpunk apparently takes elements from many different games and mashes them together to make the glory and terror that is Cyberpunk. I agree with you about MassCC, but the map creator gave xG explicit permission to use it so it's kinda stuck there.

Anyway, I agree that the chaos of trainsawlaser can be super fun sometimes, kinda like that one map on Surf. But it just ... it doesn't have anything to do with a retro game, which is the whole "theme" of the server. Maybe Uber Upgrades would be a better host for this map. I'm staying neutral on this one.

  6. @Osmo Could you please put your steam ID for your identity so we can move your application along?

Moving things along. Here's a link to his steam profile with steamID64: Steam Community :: Osmo

Not much to say here. Nice guy, follows the rules, fairly active, always fun to play with. +1 from me.

  7. So I looked at the map myself, there seems to be no issues with it. Should be fine to add it, I'll try to add it sometime tonight.

Yeah, I saw an older version as well which is probably what you're talking about. A couple other servers currently run this version and it seems to be fairly popular. One server even put it to a vote and it was met with a significant amount of support. Whether it'll be well-received on TGH remains to be seen. Looking forward to it! :D

  8. Been awhile since a new recommendation in this thread, so I'm just gonna propose another map: Pinna Park.

It's another Super Mario Sunshine map, from the same game as Delfino Plaza and Delfino Airstrip. It's of comparable size to dm_mariokart2_b3 or trade_smsdelfinoplaza_a4, albeit a little smaller. I think it would be a fun map reminiscent of the SMS game I enjoy that doesn't elicit a server-wide groan whenever we switch to it (like the Delfinos sometimes do).

I couldn't find a Gamebanana link, but here's a straight map download instead.

  9. Thank you for your feedback; I'd much rather have a well-explained and backed-up -1 than a brief and unjustified +1...

And I appreciate a calm, well-reasoned reply. I don't give -1's lightly and when I do, I try to give a clear reason for doing so.

I do empathize with you that there were a lot of "buddy" moderators before, and though I'm not calling anyone out, I'm relieved that they have improved their behavior, resigned, or been removed. From my limited observations, you seem much more patient, friendly, and mature in your recent conduct on TGH and Poketrade than previously noted. Good luck on your application. :)

  10. We don't hold regular players accountable for sprays that don't go against this: xG-News - A New Year! January Update | Xeno Gamers and Vaporeon's spray does not go against these guidelines, it is allowed and his sprays should not distinguish whether he gets staff or not. Otherwise I don't have anything to say against your opinion

Fair enough, I rescind that part. Thanks for linking the PSA, I must have missed that one.

  11. Take what I say with a grain of salt, since I only rejoined TF2 in early- to mid-December and my recent experience with Vaporeon is limited. However, from past experience with Vaporeon as a mod and an admin, I have to agree with Vector's earlier response. Vaporeon certainly has been around for a long time, knows the rules, and puts a lot of time into playing on our servers. However, that experience or longevity does not directly correlate with maturity or good judgment. To my recollection, during his time as a staff member, Vaporeon was consistently adamant about enforcing the letter of the law. While moderators (and other staff members) have a responsibility to punish rulebreakers, that is not the end goal. The goal is to ensure that the other players' experience is not negatively impacted by some asshole who is seeking to cause trouble. To put it simply, moderators should conduct themselves as both law enforcement and community representatives. When one aspect is neglected, it impacts the decision-making capability of the staff member in question. Conversely, I recall some moderators who were too lenient in administering punishments -- neglecting the law enforcement aspect -- which resulted in favoritism and failure to recognize and stop obvious rulebreaking.

Also, a staff member needs to recognize that they are not above reproach. If they delivered a punishment that did not fit the violation, they need to recognize that and adjust the punishment accordingly. Staff should be accountable to the players they serve. If a player criticizes their behavior, that is not "staff disrespect" by default. (I make it a point not to use that term because it's usually an unfair characterization and just makes you look like an asshole.) With regard to his spray, I honestly don't think it is appropriate or befitting of a staff member. Irrespective of his sexual preferences, If we hold "regular" players accountable for fetish sprays and punish them accordingly, then we should hold staff members to the same standard. In my experience, Vaporeon was very defensive about his spray and his decisions as a staff member and often reacted to immediate criticism with swift punishment, which in turn resulted in some harsh criticisms of his general behavior (some of them unfair, but others certainly justified).

Bottom line, if you feel that Vaporeon's behavior has improved in the past year and that the above points are now inapplicable, I have no problem giving him a +1. Until then, it's a -1 from me.

I was told this is the best way to reapply for staff, so here goes.

I am a former moderator for the TF2 Division who resigned to focus more on my education and stabilizing my personal life. Now that I'm back on track, I'd like to serve once again as an xG staff member. I mostly play on Pokemon Trade and Trade Gaming History, and while TGH and Surf are often well-staffed in the evening hours, Poketrade . . . not so much. I aim to fix that. Invariably, I end up having to DM a staff member to resolve an issue on either server, but during the "off" hours when most staffers are at school or a full-time job, I'm left having to resolve the issue myself without the tools to back it up. Additionally, as a college student taking mostly night classes, I can moderate the servers at these times when other staff members are occupied.

  13. Actually, @Tatost, he's got a pretty good record of not hacking. This has happened before and every time he's been cleared because it's actual sniper skill, not hacks. When you play basically just one class you get to be pretty good.

Honestly guys, he doesn't cause trouble, people generally like him, and he's a positive influence on the server. Do we say Sylux hacks with Soldier? Or Healix with Spy? Or that guy that always played Demoknight on Pokemon Trade? I doubt we're seeing any actual misdoing here.

    +1 for unban
