Why do people keep posting these threads? Aside from security, discord does not provide the scalability a multi-division gaming community would need.

It's a fair assumption no one here has actually been in a large, populated discord server. I have, and it's a messy shit show. It's unreasonable to reason that there are actual benefits from switching over to discord from teamspeak aside from saving money and having a friend list. Not only that, we lose so much control when we rely on a 3rd party to make sure our server is up. I won't even go into the implications of that.

Discord is just a glorified skype, until they add more scalability features it will be nothing but that. Meaning, it is only good for small communities (typically friends). I don't know why people post these threads as if we have never tried discord? I'm pretty sure everyone in this thread uses it on a daily.

fyi we dont pay for teamspeak either, it's on the same server box the game servers are hosted in afaik @Rhododendron can confirm

 

either way, if you want to use discord with or without people in xG, thats your businness

 

but we are not interested nor do we find the need to get an official xG server, the co-leaders can hopefully answer that (once again)

See, I'm not even saying we have to stop using teamspeak. I just think having an official Discord server would make the community WAY easier to interact with.

 

How many people outside of XG do you know what actually actively use teamspeak? There's really not a whole lot of communities that use the program anymore, so again, it's a big barrier to entry for people that are on the fence about XG.

False info, large multi-division gaming communities still use teamspeak for similar reasons that are in this thread.

Do I realize I'm not gonna convince anyone? Yeah. Do I want to know why that is? Absolutely.

They both allow multiple text channels/voice channels, have mod audit logs-- I'm just trying to understand why Teamspeak is considered better for XG's use.

Because that definitely doesn't sound like a shit show during peak hours.

A few years ago something similar to this situation happened in xG.

The minecraft DL Arthman was using a plugin on the server to put enchantments on his gear in order to gain an advantage against other players. Now, I don't know all of this logistics of tf2 but this sort of abuse is unacceptable and one of the reasons as to why Arthman was demoted despite his very successful division. From my understanding rejects has lied about this in the past and continued to put buffs on his weapons with the assistance of his DL powers.

This pretty much brings up two problems.

• Rejects can't handle the position of Division Leader and any power that comes with it.
  
• Rejects is not to be trusted if he has lied about this in the past and proceeds to only come clean once he has been caught (which can be seen as some sort of damage control).

There's no point to dwell on the issue of someone -1'ing an individual based on if they see them or not, as A. we will not allow that to be a valid vouch and B. We will implement an appropriate requirement of activity on our servers to address people's concerns.

I dont think he means that, if you get their steam id which takes less than a minute you can check how much time they have had in each of the servers. This argument should just stop now because of the thing @Aegean is implementing. And if you want to keep arguing take it to the shoutbox or some shit like that.

I don't think you know what an argument is.

The idea I'm suggesting about being able to -1 people who you have never seen before is an alternate option to the minimum active hours which is under discussion. If there is a minimum activity then you wouldn't have to -1 people for hardly being on as there is already a regulation in place.

If someone is an awful person then we do a member protest on them.

You aren't getting what I'm saying man. I'm not going to -1 someone because I don't see them on the server. I would -1 them if I know that no one knows them because I don't want people that no one has ever heard of them in the clan. That is why the minimum active hours is being considered right now.

Well you're just repeating yourself now and retorting with "minimum activity" even though that's not what you're "saying" (even though it's obviously your solution).

How is that solving anything? You're arguing that minimum activity should be implemented to solve the issue of "no names" joining the clan. What if someone has the minimum activity, but no one has heard of him and he's an awful person? See how that works?

Activity does not matter until people are staff. Someone wants to support xG by joining the clan, they apply. It gives them incentive to keep returning even if they play for 1 hour every two weeks. There's no point in declining someone from joining a gaming community just because they're not as active as you or if you don't see them on. That's malarkey, xG is not an exclusive club.

Activity doesn't even matter until you are a staff member.

Not sure why some of you are making a big deal about it. It's not like people get their membership stripped for being inactive.

2. Security: Now I read a post about discord servers not being made because of one the main reasons, Security. You say that it going to be hard to give each people their own privacy and the content not being secured. I've actually been moderation / Administrating ( they give me admin when some ad happens they say I'm like a super hero kek) of a mobile game stream server. There the security of voice chat, text, and powers are balanced and secured. How do we do this. Role powers. Individual roles can allow role invites chat invite and voice ch invites. They can also customize their own voice text ch like in team speak. I'll would tell you more how but it takes some steps and process that I'll later explain if this goes through or has a chance. (Tired af right now ;w;)

Oh yeah because that's totally secure and all about the security.

Discord is absolutely inferior in every way, shape and form in terms of security when compared to teamspeak.

In terms of permissions for a large multi-gaming community, discord is garbage. There's a reason other gaming communities with multiple divisions stay clear from discord.

Some backstory: He died to my turret after that short clip so we agreed to 3 kills. He got raped by me even though he was brand (op character, basically an ak47 vs a glock in csgo).
