Rule change for surf: Removed: !cptele should only be used to advance in the map, NOT for gaining an advantage in the arena/fighting area! You can basically CPTele anywhere except the enemy team's spawn now. Staff Psa: Issuing Warnings

.. If they're mic spamming or spamming via text, then gag/mute them before/after providing the necessary warning (regardless of it being bumped to hell). Obviously there are case-by-case uses of commands; if someone is outright flooding chat (literally copy+pasting something stupid like the 'lenny face' pandemic) then that is means enough to gag immediately and then warn. Likewise when someone is holding down their mic and speaking incoherently or is otherwise displaying an obvious intent to troll. Otherwise I completely agree with what has already been said, being that Staff are there to maintain the Servers and to foster a healthy and fun environment for Players. If you aren't able to stop whatever it is you're doing in that particular Server during a round to settle a dispute because you want to keep a good score, or are having 'fun', then I'll put it bluntly and I'm not going to sugar-coat it: resign and do not be a Staff Member. I won't speak on behalf of the Higher-Ups, but ideally any gaming community will want Staff who take pride in what they do; those who are willing to put aside whatever it is they're doing to completely handle a situation in the correct manner. Staff Members represent Xeno Gamers more than the average Members do, and therefore should make an effort to maintain their integrity both in and out of the Servers when dealing with disputes. Your top priority [as a Staff Member] should and always will be to fulfill your duty as Staff. To put this into perspective, it wasn't uncommon in the CSS Division to pass Warden or to slay/kill oneself in the middle of something in order to provide complete attention to a situation and to moderate when necessary. TL;DR - Text warnings are preferable (if not mandatory) to vocal warnings as no excuses can be made by Players stating that no warning was issued during a Ban Protest - Staff Priorities take precedence over anything in Servers. Take some pride in what you (Staff in general) do and perform your duties as a Staff Member, or step-down. You weren't promoted to have fun, but that doesn't mean you can't have any on the side.

This thread is really disappointing. Rejects has done great work, really humongous amounts of work and he is definitely more experienced when it comes to server stuff than me. I mean, we got VSH back and it's actually really great, all thanks to Rejects. But Rejects, I really don't know what's going on in your mind. It is beyond me why you'd go back to abusing after everything that has happened. Rejects does care about the clan, very much, I believe, there's no doubt about it. -> Why else would he do all the work for our FF2 server. We spoke for a good two hours about the incidents that happened previously on TeamSpeak, you seemed like your position really meant something for you and that you wouldn't wanna lose it. You promised not to do it again, but here we are. I'm not even mad, angry or anything similar, just a little disappoined in Rejects. I'm not sure if he should be demoted, yes, he has really fucked up, but I, myself, couldn't even get to his level of server experience. I really don't think Rejects does realize what he's doing. Whenever he does things like that, it's probably just some harmless fun for him which I can't blame him for. >but bello, does that justify it!!! :rage: :punch:  @Goblins No, it does not. In no way am I implying that it was justified whatsoever. Really, I'm quite unsure at this point what to do. I personally wouldn't want Rejects demoted, but if you're looking at everything from an unbiased perspective, you have to admit that it's pretty bad. No +1 or -1 from me yet, just my thoughts so far.

What I used to do is keep a file on all users I issue warnings/kicks to so I can follow up on the correct punishment if needed as well as have something to hand I can pass onto other staff so they can see past incidents and handle them accordingly It also helps in any ban appeals to have a record of rules broken with time and date stamps. It's more work but since there is only a record of bans listed on xenogamers, having a personal file containing warnings/kicks is always a plus. and yes a lot of people for various reasons do not have sound enabled so a warning in the chat is mandatory at all times followed by a verbal warning and that should be the correct protocol for dealing with all situations.

Give this man a medal he just put what I was thinking into words. As staff, your first priority is moderation of the servers. If those duties take away from your "fun" or make you less succesful at a gamemode, then so be it, you still need to fulfill those duties. As staff, your own personal fun is less important than the fun of everyone else on the server. You keep the server enjoyable for THEM, not yourself. Taking a few seconds to type a warning isn't going to ruin more than a round for yourself. But making a vocal warning that doesn't get heard just means the punished player will get confused, make a protest, and you'll spend your day defending yourself on the forums. All because you didn't want to waste that one round. More is expected of staff than other players, and part of that is giving up a turn as hale or getting backstabbed as a blu on jb to type out a warning.

Pretty much, all of this. The man knows his server side stuff, and without him we lose a large chunk of our ability to fix and customize our servers. That's a big thing to note, demoting rejects lessens what we can do with the servers, None of our other current higher ups are as savvy with server coding as rejects. That being said, continuing to do something you've been warned for is not a good look at all. I really dont know what to say here. It isn't as simple as just demoting him because we don't have someone else who can do the job as well right now. But there has to be SOMETHING done. I love my baby Rejects but this is not good. I'm neutral for now just because I don't see a good option either way, but damn.

I agree, yet disagree. True, saying the warning over mic is a lot faster and easier, especially if you're busy, but I feel it leaves room for issues. For example: Dingus is micspamming over on FF2, you say over mic "Stop micspamming ya dingus" but no one hears you due to aforementioned dingus spam and people talking over each other, which is a common occurrence. You mute them, they get rustled over a 30 min mute and start an abuse report on you. This has actually happened. In reality, it takes literally 2 seconds to type: @Don't micspam, @Don't Freekill, @Don't lie about freerun, etc... Plus, it gives evidence you provided a warning, which deters any false abuse or wrongful punishment claims. I just see this from the eyes of an ex-Mod and remember players who join simply to cause trouble and look for openings like this to start drama. One question though. Is all chat recorded in the chat logs? I don't really remember...

You can't constantly blame a player for choosing to keep their voice chat/sound off. Once again I'll make this clear. Staff should always give a clear warning through text chat. There is a reason why you have handy tools such as all-chat and the multiple menu/pop-up commands.

    Staff Psa: Issuing Warnings

I understand what you're saying, but you seem to be misunderstanding the point here. While it may be efficient, it is not a static way of ensuring the rule breaker understands that a warning has been given. There is no way to disregard text ingame (that I'm aware of), while voice-chat can simply be muted. Not only does this absolve our Staff of the whole "I didn't hear a warning" case, but it can also provide tangible evidence that a warning was issued. Additionally, at no point should Staff bypass or otherwise ignore proper protocol or procedure because "other Staff do it". The proper steps to take would be to remind the offending Staff Member that they are to verbally warn the rule-breaker via text first before choosing to resort to vocal warnings. I also realize there are many scenarios where warning via text can inconvenience Staff or hinder gameplay, but that's just it; it [potentially] inconveniences the Players for one round at the most (assuming it really takes that amount of time to deal with a rule-breaker) while a rule-breaker can hinder multiple rounds. If there are multiple occurrences of rule-breakers, then Staff should not be taking a prominent/active role (IE. Warden, Death, etc) to begin with because, as previously mentioned, your duties/responsibility to the Server(s) as Staff are priority #1. Though you're correct, if you aren't enjoying what you do, then you should resign. As previously mentioned, it is by no means mandatory that anyone be Staff just as Staff should not feel obligated to maintain their position; there's no shame in stepping-down in order to enjoy the Servers more. You can still be a prominent role-model as a Member by taking demos every now and then and by reporting rule breakers without hampering your own fun.

Reasons to have voice volume off: -People that are being loud or have annoying voices -People using slang or being rude to players they kill -People who repeat what they're trading in voice chat over and over -People who spam music (though these are mostly muted or banned) Reasons to have voice volume on: -The rare off chance that someone is only using voice chat to talk to me, rather than text chat This is just kinda my mindset right now... I just don't like constantly having to mute people when I can just have my volume off, because people talking in voice chat is almost never positive when I hear it.

I don't really agree with how you have to warn in chat instead of mic because you could be really busy or something such as in combat, surfing (etc) and someone could be spamming the chat and you wouldn't be able to do anything about it. Not to mention how having their in game volume off is as bad as muting a staff member so you can't hear what they say. I personally believe it's their fault for having sound disabled. At least it's clarified but I'm not sure how I feel about this.

    Staff Psa: Issuing Warnings

Going to agree with people saying job comes before play and a text warning should be mandatory. It's not going to kill the entire day or mood just to have to type out a text warning so that everyone has a fair chance at seeing it, at most it's just a minor inconvenience to the one doing it. There's a whole slew of reasons one could or would want to keep voices off, even possibly hearing problems, but the most I can see when it comes to why people can't just do a text warning as well is that it's more efficient/convenient or because the game might possibly be interrupted for a bit if the staff is currently the one playing as a bigger role. Maybe it is more convenient but it's certainly not as fair. Got to think of the player's side of things. The efficiency argument is even debatable since voice chat could also be very active and people might not hear you- this happens particularly often in TGH where people are talking a lot and further enforces why people might keep voices off or why text chat warnings would be more useful.

Regardless, if you feel like they didn't see it. Then type it again. They have the ability to scroll up through chat if they're curious. 1 - If you're staff and playing the role as warden, then the players should have their volume on to hear the warden give orders. 2 - This one somewhat makes sense, but is it really a big deal? 3 - The Saxton you're playing as has a large amount of HP. Taking a couple hundred off to type out a warning isn't really a big deal. You are a staff member. I understand that having fun is your goal, but when you willingly accept the responsibility to uphold rules on the servers, you don't always reach the goal of fun.

    Staff Psa: Issuing Warnings

Some situations like i said will make this really difficult. Someone could be spamming the chat and I can't warn them. We should still count it as an official warning because they've already heard the warning on mic. This also opens up opportunities to 1. Kill the warden if they are a staff member giving a warning 2. Run past traps in deathrun 3. Saxton has to stand still You should still be able to give verbal warnings and them counting otherwise gamemodes can be ruined

A player having their volume off is a completely justifiable reason when staff refuses to give proper warnings through text chat at least once before banning them. As for the colorized while friendly thing, you shouldn't instantly start pointing fingers calling it "trolling". It's a donator perk that the donators have decided to use to get around an annoying quirk with the friendly plugin, which is the transparency. We're currently going over the colorizing while friendly thing in private and will let everyone know when we finish up there. Also just to clarify, I made a PSA going over how to give a proper warning: Staff Psa: Issuing Warnings. This isn't the only incident I've had to go over recently and I think now would be a good time to get it out there. Now as for the protest, @Bello @mrnutty12, we going to unban him or not? His ban is almost up and @Sesh has already agreed.

Sesh's post explained it quite well: You can not blame a user for everything, staff incompetence and unwillingness to take a few seconds to type is sometimes the problem.

I might be misreading a thing here or there, but text warnings should always be given out alongside voice if people like to use the mic a lot. Some people keep voices off for one reason or another.
