Our leader is an actual web designer and has coded this from scratch lol. Going to Member Submission and clicking on the stickied posts that says "guidelines" is pretty practical in my opinion and hasn't been an issue for majority of the people who apply. The fact that we need 2 higher ups to +1 you if you leave even on good terms can be something we discuss, but aside from that, we have made getting membership very lenient compared to the past, and we want people to represent us positively at the end of the day.

The old look is "outdated" and this is completely coded from @Rhododendron from scratch, I don't think implementing the old version would be so easy for the time being after how much he's changed this one. I don't mind getting people's opinion but I will most likely say it's gonna be a no.

I personally always prefer logs over planks in terms of aesthetics for the exterior of buildings, the new image you posted isn't bad but I would have all the logs face the same way since it looks awkward if it doesn't.
