Honestly, I can see why this is an issue and can certainly commend those of you who are fighting to get proper enforcement on this sort of content; however, as with any other 'derogatory' word/slur, there are certain limitations on what should and shouldn't be censored. My one and only grievance with this whole thing is the fact that people are treating the use of the phrase "autistic" or "autist" as an insult, when it really isn't. By choosing to censor or effectively ban the word, you're inadvertently supporting this stigma that being called "autistic" is a bad thing. So long as this isn't the case and Staff will just be keeping an eye out for the misuse of the term (IE. using the term in a mocking way or intending to use it as an insult) I can get behind regular enforcement of it. That being said, since this is relevant to the topic at hand, Staff should also keep an eye out for any other derogatory or otherwise disrespectful banter including topics that may be sensitive to others on the Servers. This includes any other mental illnesses, recent (or even past) tragedies, etc; which should already be the case :coffee:

Alright I finally got back to this. For context I'm an Autistic Person, and have previously been affiliated with a national Autistic Advocacy Organization. I've also done a bit of Lobbying in D.C. against a bill that would have given parents access to tracking their Autistic children via GPS in a way that violated the childs HIPAA privacy rights. You'll notice that I've exclusively used the word Autistic to describe myself and other Autistic people here, that was intentional. Most Autistic people prefer to be referred to that way. It's not an insult. We think logically, and it's just more correct. Autism isn't an appendage, or something I carry around with me, or something somehow separate from me being a person. It's a state of being that colors every experience and can't be turned off. So I just don't really trust a thread claiming to know what makes Autistic people more comfortable when they went beyond even the common "person with" or "has Autism" all the way to "suffers from", which is what people like me actually have much more of a problem with and want to stop. Autism isn't suffering. It's uncomfortable at times, and can put you in bad situations, but it isn't suffering. Calling it that just diminishes the positive qualities and experiences that Autistic people have and only leads to the general public pitying us rather than looking at us at equals, so let's stop with the "suffers from" talk. As for the thread though, I don't see it as the biggest issue and seeing as I've already explained Autistic People preferring to be called such It's obvious I'm against outright banning the word. But seeing as the one driving principle of Disability Rights movement and Autism/Neurodiversity movement is "nothing about us without us" this decision should be made largely by the people it actually affects.

I know @Vacindak can vouch for some of these. #surf_map_request As a side note I'd like to call for removal of surf_monolith. It has made my game crash multiple times (badly optimized) and in general is just way too huge and basic to be any fun. Server really dies down whenever it comes on.

I'm confident a lot of people will disagree with me, but I feel as if nothing should be changed. If anything, treat it as saying "nigga" or "nigger". I haven't seen it used on JB in an offensive (by my definition, which is different than everyone else i'm sure) manor that would have gotten them a slap on the wrist from whoever (and by that I mean the word is barely ever said). As for people not wanting to speak out, i'm honestly unsure what to do about that. Surely if it's used and said person got offended you'd see some sort of change in their behavior and be able to tell by that. I don't know, I just feel as if things are getting too strict in terms of certain words being used. I don't want to see the day where people are getting offended, causing a HUGE issue about it, all because they were called a dork, then that word is blacklisted and enforced by a ten day ban, followed by fifty lashings in front of a minimum of ten community members and three staff for a minimum of three days. Also I would like to also take this time to say IF YOU HAVE AN ISSUE WITH SOMEONE, GO. TO. STAFF. We will solve it as best we can, and update you as to what was done. Don't be scared, we won't turn you away no matter the issue.

I guess I'm just numb to it now but ratings are ratings. Even if they're negative. They don't mean anything. I can never tell if people are more passive aggressive about giving or getting ratings but both are just wasting time. As for the the app +1. Snowy cares about xG and wants to improve it. And she's knowledgeable about the rules. And more than active enough. I don't see enough negative to cancel that out.

Snowy is an interesting person. She can be hard on people at times and overreact to a lot of shit, (others do too including myself but oh well). However i do think she cares about the servers and people. Sure she says stupid shit sometimes but we all get frustrated, my advice to snowy is to just relax and control your frustration and your moderator skills with be more appreciated. Sometimes you should just ignore what people say to or about you and it will help you in the long run. Long story short, she has some problems but overall really cares about the servers and xG and when shes relaxed, she can be fun to be around and is understanding. I think on both ends if you guys can just talk it out without shit flinging then i'm sure you can come up with an understanding. Server: TF2 Surf Bug or Suggestion?: Bug/Exploit What is your bug/suggestion?: The plugin used to negate fall-damage does not work correctly and is being exploited by a lot of players. Any time the player takes damage that is not caused by another player's weapon, their HP is set to 100, regardless of whatever their HP was before taking damage. This is really bad because if a player is at low HP, they can just jump off the tall ledges that are oh-so incredibly common in surf maps and take "fall damage", and have their HP boosted up to 100. I've been on the surf server a lot lately and I see players not only complaining about it, but I also see it abused heavily by market-gardener soldiers, who are constantly rocket-jumping and taking fall damage. A common scenario on the server is like, 3 or 5 soldiers jumping around and killing people while they try to pick down their HP with pistols and such. But the soldiers don't die because their health is being reset to 100 every time they hit the ground, making it much harder to kill them without a weapon that does over 100 damage very quickly. This plugin also breaks a lot of surf maps by negating the damage that is supposed to be given via jail-kill buttons or hazards. A map was even recently removed because players could fall down and get stuck at the bottom of the map, because this badly-written plugin wouldn't let them die from the kill-trigger that was at the bottom of the map. Please, don't even bother trying to fix the plugin, just get rid of entirely.

As I've stated, we will not be banning the word outright, and not treat it exactly like if people say nigge* or chin* but if people see others using autistic in a demeaning way towards others and or spamming the word we can just tell them that we don't want people to be uncomfortable. We won't be strict about it but acknowledge it's not encouraged in our servers. I have friends with mild autism and as such I understand that if they are uncomfortable they don't talk about it, it's not because they are scared or worried and they wouldn't just randomly sound depressed that's part of the issue of the mental condition which is why if you read the previous posts @Warriorsfury you would know why this discussion is even taking place.

I dont disagree with you completely, but i think its different if youre just being addressed as autistic, rather than being called autistic while associating it with a stupid action or some other demeaning situation(i.e someone saying "Are you autistic or something?" when something dumb happens, directly associating autism with dumb stuff. It may not offend all, but it may offend some). I feel like banning the word shouldnt really be a thing, but it still shouldnt be used in a way to make fun of others(which might even go along with the whole "No Disrespect" rule, making a new rule pointless, as it already relates to another).

Rofl why even mention such a thing with that tone, he's clearly been here for almost a year regardless, and some people apply for mod after a few months of being on the server considering it's not a requirement to be in the servers a year+ for a mod app. It's a mod request and if he's been here for 2 years or even 10 years, it has no reflection on if he would be a good moderator or not. Why not just let the people who see him and play with him comment about it instead? I wouldn't even mind if you mentioned how long he's been in our servers and corrected him if you had also talked about if he is a good member in our servers or if he would be a good mod but instead you leave with 0 input, and just call him out on something so trivial.

XG however has been ignoring the comfort and security of one group : people who suffer from Autism Spectrum Disorder. More than 3.5 million Americans have been diagnosed with ASD and the number is believed to be much higher due to individuals who have closeted their disorder. The amount of people who suffer from ASD on Steam is staggering, and it is safe to say that we come in contact with some of these individuals online daily. Autism spectrum disorder more often than not leads to many separate diagnoses such as Anxiety, depression, and Agoraphobia. People who have been bullied due to their atypical behaviour begin to see themselves as lesser, worthless, and with a bleak future. ASD can also lead to dependency issues, which only amplifies these thoughts of self worthlessness, and in some cases these thoughts lead to self harm or even suicide. As a community service worker, I have seen this happen, it is heart breaking and it never gets easier. With all of this being said, why are we allowing people to use this serious disorder to be the butt of every joke? Yes it is a meme that is used often, but so are other slurs we find unacceptable. There will be people on the spectrum ok with these slurs, may even use them themselves as a joke, but this can be said about any slur. I have been receiving messages of people on the spectrum feeling isolated and outcasted to to these jokes and I believe that we must put a stop to it, for their sake and for future xG players.

The same can be said about any slur. The N word for instance more often than not offends no one. However xG takes no chances regarding the comfort of its members and I feel we should not exclude people suffering from ASD. I feel the word itself isn't bad, but the context it usually falls under. I suggest if we hear jokes using this disorder in a negative light, that the same procedures be done as with any other slur. Members of xG are always around to keep others in line when other slurs are used, and I'm sure they won't mind ensuring that our team members with ASD are comfortable as well.

There are times however where they are rude to the other players. It is understandable to get frustrated, but that doesn't justify rude behaviour. -1 to neutralize my older comment as I ponder this a bit.

My opinion isnt a popular one, so I may receive hate for this, if always been one to speak my mind however. I feel that the core value xG holds is respect. Respect for boundaries and respect for each other. We don't tolerate bad behaviour because this is a clan built on morals and ethics. I have known snowy for a while now, however I have only seen two sides to her: the rule enforcing side which is fine and well, and the more abrasive side. I considered looking past it, as maybe I am missing a piece of the puzzle, However when I retracted my vote to consider her a tad more, not to say no, just to think, she disrespected my desition, and claimed it boring. These symbols are in the negative section, which is where my problem is. The amount of negative reflects what quality of a person I am and she knew this and used this as apposed to waiting out my response. And it is this that makes me feel she does not respect me.
