Spawn camping
Barmithian and 2 others reacted to Vector for a post in a topic
Okay so now that i got home, took a nap, i'm gonna comment. First of all, we have had this conversation before. multiple threads actually: Spawn Camping Poll. | Xeno Gamers Spawn Camping Removal Dicsussion. | Xeno Gamers Spawn Camping: Yay Or Nay? | Xeno Gamers An Upset Server | Xeno Gamers spawn camping | Xeno Gamers http://puu.sh/cwT3r/5b6cc5315e.jpg and probably more if i looked. now spawn camping is fine, the matter of the fact that this is a trade server, we have a server dedicated to 24/7 clocktown, and if you have ever played on that map, you would know that the red team has an unfair advantage because of how blu spawn exit is a small hallway that usually get them selves trapped. so, naturally if you ban spawn camping, we're gonna be banning so many people and which @Bach said "Then we'll ban them" well that's not so great seeing as how the map's spawn is so close together and that it will probably end up banning the regulars. so you're gonna be banning people in hopes that the people will repopulate. For pokemon trade, the spawns are so far apart, that the other team must build multiple buildings to actually get through with it, we are already dealing with body blockers and building blocking so it's easier to destroy them all. Any map can be spawn camped. Also these are trade servers and we have a friendly plugin which i barley see any other admin tell the players to use. As mentioned before, that we will have to end up banning multiple people for just playing the game how it should be. Also enforcing the rule is tricky as we don't know how we dictate what spawn camping is, the obvious one would be something like going heavy and being in front of their spawn, but what about the players who just hang around it such as scout, don't tell me a scout himself can keep a whole team spawn camped, same goes for sniper. The players are what bring people back, spawn camping doesn't me jack because people go around looking for a server to trade on. now the conversation i had with bach, when i joined the teamspeak room i was like why is spawn camping banned again? i'm greeted to, "it's now not allowed and if you don't like you can leave". (leave xG) we then go back and forth with little to no real reason on their side and no point that could be deflected on our end, he never contacted me about this sort of rule, so he knew that this would happen and still let it happen. after that, it just turned into "Moosty is more credible then you" which literally had nothing to do with what we were talking about, and then problems about my admin style, which again was deferring the actual arguments, insults such as, i don't give a shit about the server even though i have been here for over 2 years and have been admin in 2 divisions and one of the admins who helped populate TGH. and finally threats of demotion against me. @kbraszzz @Moosty were there. So if i get demoted, gg -

So I ve been playing tf2 for 3 years now and on XG servers for 2 years and banning spawn camping is a poor decision and let me explain why. Most of the strategies on the maps we play on involve spawn camping or at least the ones I've found to be successful universally do. Lets take the example of golden rod city. You see about 4 or 5 strategies regularly, all of which would be classified as spawn camping. 1: snipers sniping from near there own spawn to the opposing spawn. 2: scouts who run behind the opposing spawn and kill said snipers 3: sticky jumping demos who caber the opposing spawn 4:pyros who and other friends who pick off people near the enemy spawn and 5: My strategy sticky jumping to the opposing spawn and using stickies on the door. This is how this map is played. Most frags happen in what i would call the spawn areas. NEXT TO NO FRAGS HAPPEN ON THE MIDDLE STRECH. Clocktown is a better balanced map in my opinion but again look at where the frags take place: Infront of the clock tower or in front of blue spawn. The main difference between clock town and goldenrod is that clock town isn't a gigantic stretch of land that allows snipers to snipe from the other side of the map like golden rod but it has tight corridors that are great for demo's and soldiers. Both spawns fall to sticky traps quotes easily but thats how the map is played. if you ban spawn camping then snipers Will snipe from spawn. And the spawns are too close together on clock town to avoid one team from pushing into each others spawn areas. Banning spawn camping Just doesn't work. It makes the maps unplayable particularly clock town as the spawns are so close to each other that about 90% of frags on that map could be considered spawn camping. Golden rod isn't much better. at least 80% of the kills I've gotten on that map have been near the enemy spawn or near mine. In addition I can't follow this rule. Its simple. When people snipe me Im going to try to kill them. End of story. And since people snipe in or near spawn on both maps Im going to spawn camp. And every one who regularly plays on TF2 servers will too and knows exactly what will happen. To support my balance claims Id like to point out my stats: On the former trade gaming history server/24 hour clock town: I rank number 1 with the stock rocket launcher number 1 with the sticky bomb launcher number 1 with the stock sniper and number 7 overall. I know these weapons and i know these maps pretty well. If you don't trust my opinion Many others support my opinion including @Vector @Kypari . Again this rule will push more people, including you're regulars like me away from servers. and won't solve anything -
2 pointsDuring population on rotation or any other population, someone always seems to say "It isn't really population when it's just xG members" or something rather similar to that. Well, I've been thinking. Why don't we spread ourselves out across our servers? Let's say you've got 20 people all playing on an unpopulated server. - 5 of them go to one other unpopulated server - 5 of them go to another unpopulated server - 5 of them go to another unpopulated server - 5 of them stay on the current unpopulated server. I believe that the reason we are encountering these unpoputlated problems is because nobody really wants to play on a server with 0 people and then wait for it to be a bit more populated. I'm fairly sure you'd feel the same. I've noticed that every single time I go onto 24/7 Clocktown and at least 5 people are on it, it fairly quickly begins to populate. So what do you guys think about this? We could arrange ourselves into different teams or something to keep this organised.

Spawn camping is what makes the map more challenging and allows people to work together and develop skills to pass those spawn campers. I say that disallowing spawn camping just ruins the game, because majority of the kills are done near each spawn. I'd say keep spawn camping and just work together to get over it. If you're not up for getting out of a spawn camp, just use the friendly command. Case closed. -

Trust me populating isn't that easy. I've thought of this idea. I like it but it's a tough job -

Please be a social awk somewhere else. Ill be giving a larger response when i get home from class. But ill talk about the conversation or argument or whatever i had with bach. Believe it or not i didnt spark the argument but again ill make a much larger response Spawn camping is fine Enforcing the rule is hard First impressions arent about spawn camping or any of that. Its the players These are only a few points i bring up I will elaborate later cause its 4 am -
1 pointNot to be a rule whore or anything, but since when did TF2 Staff have the jurisdiction to do this, and when/who permitted this to be allowed? I realize each Division has their own set of rules, but the general consensus of being a Staff Member carries over from every Division, ingame rules don't. Staff don't get their own special brand of law within another Server last I checked. Should also remove the whole "noballs" thing as that was phased out with the introduction of the Community Leaders. :coffee:

Fantastic costume m8, look spooky as hell. I myself just finished taking some pics, however no costume this year. First pic is my failed xG Pumpkin (I found out I fudged up on the x with the first cut, so had to make due), the second is the other pumpkin unlit (so you can see the paper) and then lit. Lets see some of your pumpkins xG! -
1 pointGot some suggests to improve the new layout. Would be nice if... The emotions (ratings) were merged with the status bar. (ie post time, post # etc). Possibly with the checkbox, name and post time on the right and emotions on the left. The profile picture and/or name could have an toggle option for either steam or forum default. The forum tags (ie. member, donator etc) were placed bellow the name. The 'Forums' sub-menu (ie. mark read, search etc) disappeared when the client isn't hovering over it. Maybe at-least just an scroll feature. The green bar was merged with the black one. Maybe with the profile pic setup like twitter but with the mailbox, flag and credits bellow the name. The about us (at the bottom of the page in black) was moved to the far right. (makes more sense) The facebook, twiter, youtube, home, contact, help, terms etc was merged with 'about us' in the black (at page bottom) The style chooser put on the copyright bar. (remove the need for anther bar) The client status was placed bellow to name. (remove the need for the top bar) The 'XenoGamers' logo was moved to the top right corner of the screen The ad(s) were placed on the side of the page. (allows for 2 or more and reduces scrolling) p.s. I just used AdBlock on chrome to construct an more organized forum layout. Its as simple as right clicking on the form features you don't like and blocking them. If you think this looks good, it can be made even better with suggestions above. 1 pointSo is this going to be dealt with? Enough proof has been provided that there was no scam. There is also no proof that a scam took place, it was all by word. This also means that the accused scammer should get unbanned/a shortened ban too as they have done nothing wrong.

If you are just a heavy/soldier/pyro/demo with a medic, it's pretty easy to get to spawn. -

Was already agreed upon that the Community Leaders would not have these benefits (the noballs) as they do not have any Server-side powers in regards to their position. This allows them to be a Moderator/Administrator/Division Manager/Division Leader (keeping their current position) should they choose so without adding a new rank, as like their name suggests, they are community leaders. Although I'm getting the feeling I'm misinterpreting what it is you are agreeing on changing, so correct me if I'm wrong -

0 pointsCalling all monsters, ghouls, zombies and trolls!! With Halloween just around the corner, I thought it would be nice to have a thread in which everyone could share pictures or videos of their decorations, jack o' lanterns, and even costumes! To keep things interesting, I am also proposing a little event that will reward all those who participate with credits for our very own Forums as well as a cash prize for the one who really tops the cake! Contest Details: - Decorate or Carve a pumpkin showing some good old fashioned XenoGamers spirit! Think of zany or creative ways in which to do this, the more creative the better! Then post the picture of the pumpkin (or even a selfie with yourself in costume!) in this thread to be eligible for some delicious credits! - Remember to credit yourself in the photo you take by either writing on the pumpkin, or just a piece of paper (your forum name + time/date). This is merely to discourage any cheaters who want to win off of other people's pumpkins! - The person who has the best looking pumpkin that displays mucho XenoGamer's spirit will receive a 20$ cash prize!

0 pointsWe could limit the time that you're allowed to spawn camp. I mean, that way spawn camping is still allowed, yet, randomers aren't put off
-
0 pointsI'll make this short and sweet. This rule is TEMPORARY. A test run. As @Vector brought up (after large amounts of cussing and arguing) this has happened before. Just another test run before @kbraszzz, myself and the other staff find a more permanent solution. We can all hate it until we're blue in the face, but we ARE trying to put things in the right direction. Change takes time.

0 pointsI'm going to defend getting rid of spawn camping. It makes the servers less fun, and randoms don't join. There will still be killing in spawn "areas". But stickying spawn doors and setting up sentries and dispensers to stop the blus from ever leaving the corridor needs to stop. It just makes it not fun. Have you guys not noticed how if red gets a good camp on blu on clocktown, after about five minutes blu has about 6 or 7 less people on it? Then the camping team even starts gloating. It kills population and kills fun. It needs to go. Having staff be able to discern what is and isnt spawncamping, while also implementing a short spawn protection would be ideal. Dont worry guys, it isn't like you would have to never fire towards a spawn, but setting up full team camps where you cant leave without rtd or godmode, it needs to stop.

Restating what Vaporeon and Moosty had said earlier, it would be easier if we just have a spawn protection plug-in. I've been to plenty of servers where they have spawn protection and it's always full players and almost no complaining about gettin killed at spawn or near spawn. It's whatever @Bach and @Kabrazz wants to do. (Sorry if I dont tag someone else, just tagging the people I know could work this out) -
