I think this depends on the situation. For example, a player is running around with a Scattergun named "Faggot Blaster" after killing a player he says "Read my weapon name. That's just for people like you xD". Then that might be a problem. But say another player has a Displenary Action named "Black History Month". Would someone get offended? Probably, but are we really gonna micromanage players to that point? I mean, it would need to be really really offensive to have to take action on. But needing Staff to check weapon names on top of managing the server in general? I'd really rather not have xG become known as "The Tumblr of TF2 Servers" because we're so worried about someone possibly getting offended.

Honestly stop with these threads. These are just getting beyond annoying. If you haven't read the ones before, Teamspeak has better security than Discord. Plus it's a better platform for the clan's use. You can use Discord with your friends or something. Just stop bringing these threads up.

I like the idea, but I feel like it would be a nightmare for staff to enforce. Having a bunch of rules that are too complicated/annoying to enforce in the first place is never good, and just leads to staff ignoring the rule most of the time. That being said, i do believe it would be a good addition, if we could somehow figure out a way to do it somewhat efficiently. Maybe we could expand on the "No racism" rule to include nametags and player names?

To prevent you from having to go back to read the other threads, which you clearly knew about. Security issues, teamspeak runs with a solid set up that has been tested over numerous years and contains some top notch security for voip/text communication, Discord is still in terms of these kinds of programs... brand new. As seen with skype and other programs it is a very common thing to attempt to use them as a means of stealing people's information. Teamspeak already has solid protection and encryption that is doubled up on with our server using it's own protection because it is hosted on the same box as some of the servers we run. User Friendliness, literally the same thing. instead of having constant tabs where you are able to switch servers with the click of a button, you have to... oh wait, you can do the same exact thing in teamspeak. You can even private message users on teamspeak servers as well, the only user friendly note discord has over TS that I can see is that you can PM people without having to be in their server. Stating that nobody uses TS anymore is pretty bold, I haven't looked at official numbers but from what I can see, small communities hover around discord as it is free to set up and they don't have to rent a server. these are typically communities that form on a free forum site and play games that they don't buy servers on or can't. they just group up a lot. and then on the other end, large communities like a few subreddits due to the fact that again, it is free... from a free forum style website... meanwhile if you go to most large server hosting communities/clans you see things like TS Mumble and Ventrillo. 3 very long standing voip programs.

Seems completely plausible if you were to have a plugin written to do this all automatically... You could also limit the connected player to only get, say... 3 quests per 30 mins? That way people couldn't farm, or abuse the system. Have the connected player's Steam ID linked through the plugin so that they can level up to get harder and more profitable quests. Make special quest-obtainable titles and trails to further motivate people to do them. Hell, even have server custom achievements they can get by finishing a certain amount of quests or finishing a certain quest. This is all possible, but would probably take a long time to get it all written up correctly and not blow up the server by accident

sv_cheats 1 allows players who haven't donated for perks such as noclip to use it. If we enabled sv_cheats 1, we would not have a way to white-list which players can use what commands (this leads to people just coming on to troll with it.) Noclip isn't the only command that literally ruins the experience, but it blatantly shows that it would be completely stupid if we enabled it on the servers. EDIT: literally just me explaining what it does for you. tl;dr kids are just gonna use the commands and troll with them.

it certainly will make ghosting more of a pain in the backside to handle since players in ghost can scout ahead to potentially call out traps such as which door is correct, or which platforms are correct, etc. It might not always be obvious too if 2 friends are playing and telling their friend via steam messages which way to go so they can easily get past traps. Is this possible? I ask because "!tp" seems to just be a way to access the "thirdperson" camera without having to use "sv_cheats 1" commands. For anyone who doesn't know, "mayamode" locks your camera at a certain angle in third-person mode. As an example, in "thirdperson_mayamode" if you do a 180, the camera won't follow your in-game model's back anymore, and your in-game model will be facing the camera. I'm pretty sure neither I nor anybody else is exactly dying to have this command or anything, but it just seems like a quality-of-life command that would be nice to have. It could also help with getting good screenshots for "Screenshot of the Month".

Dylan I'm quite surprised and disappointed that you would do such a thing on our servers. You seemed like the type of member to always follow the rules, not break them. Seeing this kinda makes me upset especially since this protest won't get you unbanned. I still think we need a demo of you hacking but I don't think that matters since you're admitting that you were hacking. You can do one of the challenges to get unbanned (Look at Kypari's comment above). But honestly dude like WHY DID YOU THINK THIS WAS A GOOD IDEA?!?!?

fyi we dont pay for teamspeak either, it's on the same server box the game servers are hosted in afaik @Rhododendron can confirm either way, if you want to use discord with or without people in xG, thats your businness but we are not interested nor do we find the need to get an official xG server, the co-leaders can hopefully answer that (once again) @Aegean

That has already been a thing when Jailbreak #1 would get a steady population. @Egossi But we did not remove it since it's for donators only. Donators would lose their powers if they exploited plugins like that, so I don't think we'll have a problem there. Or did someone actually start doing that? In that case I'd be down to remove the plugin, I guess.

The process would be similar to that of moderating sprays; Staff wouldn't have to actively search for it as they would only take action when it is seen or if a Player has reported it as previously mentioned. That being said, I can definitely see how this could lead to disgruntled Players leaving due to the inconvenience of having to swap it out like Aegean said. It gets to a point where the Server becomes unplayable due to the mountain of rules to keep it a "safe place"; which is unrealistic due to the nature of the game itself as well as being one that is online and free to play. To be perfectly honest, I think the whole "PG13" aspect of the General rules should be completely re-hauled or otherwise tossed. I know for a fact that the chat on the Servers (in General, not exclusively TF2) can vary heavily in terms of derogatory or otherwise offensive content. Hell, I know for a fact that even Staff/Members indulge in swearing every now and again. Point being that it's easy to maintain a PG13 environment on a Forum or any other social gathering that is relatively static, but when it comes to a more dynamic environment with a lot more going on (IE. Servers) it just isn't very realistic to maintain a PG13 environment. But I digress, this is something that warrants its own thread. All in all, in my opinion, if the renamed weapon has derogatory/offensive content (namely ethnicity, politics, religion, sexuality) then it should not be permitted on the Servers. Anything that involves "Butt Blaster" or whatever should be fine, but again, this is only assuming we're actually taking the whole 'PG13' thing seriously; something that I'm inclined to believe that we really aren't :coffee:

I don't think it'd be easy to farm if we make it like a weekly quest or something if that's possible. 3 quests per week and just reward around 25- 100 schmeckles for each :coffee:

Honestly it wouldn't be that hard to make a plugin to do that, it'd just take a bit to add various types of quests. The main problem really is with farming/exploiting, which is gonna be difficult to avoid for anything that involves multiple players.

Hey don't be so disheartened. It's an interesting idea without a doubt, and could potentially add a ton of fun to the servers. That being said something like this would need to be dissected thoroughly so as to not cause problems (easy exploiting and such as already stated). That being said, it would take a lot of time to figure out a proper way to implement it, again, assuming such an automated system is even possible. Regardless, don't be afraid people are trying to shut down your idea, in fact it seems very much the opposite. The problems just need to be pointed out so they can be addressed, fixed, and improved. Kinda going off bones idea, it MIGHT make the system a bit easier to have it direct people/connect to the forums to be able to start their quests, which also might help as a somewhat subtle way to lean people towards applying for membership. Gotchya, I think it would still need to be a case by case basis, but there's no harm in having something in place for the extreme cases.

I hope you only mean really derogatory or racist slurs, not just fuck or shit or something. If someone has an item renamed something minorly offensive but can't use it on our servers due to the name or description, it could just lead them to leave, and make it annoying for staff to enforce. I'm neutral on the topic but if it is accepted I don't want it to be so safe-spacey in terms of any slur is unaccepted.

as vexx said it would be incredibly hard to keep track of players with offensive renamed items. But of course if someone has pointed it out or you have seen it yourself it should be fine to ask them to change the weapon, same as you would ask someone to change an offensive objector. I support this as I hate to see any form of offensive slur which could upset somebody. so I will +1 to have the no slurs rule extended to item renames.

sometimes on surf i get auto balanced to the other team, even when the teams were even e.g. 6v6 then i get balanced to make it 7v5. I can still switch back but its just really rare and weird. Might be my game though because i am glitchy but it does happen, anyone else get this problem?
