A Open Discussion About Teamspeak (Please read if you're staff)
Bone and 5 others reacted to realBelloWaldi for a post in a topic
I'm gonna be real here. The reason why I don't use TeamSpeak that much is because I simply don't wanna talk to people. If I'm playing games, I wanna focus on games [unless I'm playing with real life friends] and if I'm doing something else, I don't wanna talk to people that are basically strangers to me. >But you are a higher up!!! Yes, very true. I'm not saying my argument is legitimate here, but that's the reason. Of course I have joined staff meetings and private higher up chats before and I have no problem with that, but I generally simply don't wanna talk to people that I don't really know. This does not imply that I'm not using TS at all. Before I went on that trip, I was there for at least a few hours everyday to play with my irl friends. Even @xCabrio joined at some point. I'm just saying that I personally dislike it. EDIT: In response to Chrono: I have been a lot on TeamSpeak with my irl friends recently. You must have missed me, which is kinda not avoidable since I'm going to school and I live in a different time zone. -
5 pointsWell you said you were gonna step down, so this didn't come as a surprise, and regardless of whether or not you care I can't help but point out you've left a very bad impression on I think most people here by making this thread the way you did. Hope it was the right decision to make in this situation, and thank you for your services.

A Open Discussion About Teamspeak (Please read if you're staff)
YeEternalTuna and 3 others reacted to Aegean for a post in a topic
We've had many discussions about why we don't use discord, and I have said in the past that I do not want to force staff to use teamspeak, instead of forcing I would like to know from you guys what it would take to get you to start using our teamspeak. If you are staff and do not use our teamspeak, I would like to know the reasons behind you not wanting to use teamspeak despite it being our official VOIP and the fact that we want new players to also use our teamspeak and populate it. If none of you use teamspeak, you guys are pretty much indirectly persuading the new members to not use it either since if they want to hang out with you guys, it has to be on your own discords. On teamspeak we are able to integrate it with the forums so you not only get credits every minute you're on teamspeak (and not afk) but also the fact we release custom icons and you are known by your staff rank (different stars for different staff) to help newer folks interact with you. Anyways, all that being said, the question is just what would it take for us to convince you to use our teamspeak more often. We used to have a rule back in the CS:S days that you must be active on teamspeak, I'm not gonna threaten you with a demotion at this time and I know some of our higherups use discord as well, this is just an open discussion, no flame allowed. -

I've been using discord a lot more recently and I think it's time we consider making the swap as a community. Everyone has their respective points in this thread, but as of right now teamspeak is really just people in community channels, any of the real channels are rarely used. I'll be brief with the logistics, but, Discord would be more beneficial compared to teamspeak at this point for our community. We'll still have seclusion of private/community channels. Everything we have on teamspeak right now can be integrated into our discord server (minus subchannels). A truly centralized server for all the divisions, the popularity of our tf2 division might be able to assist our CS:GO division (or others) if we have an official discord. This would be the equivalence of CS members from teamspeak spilling over to gmod+minecraft years ago. Furthering my previous point, all the members of our community will be able to socialize easily with general chats and open channels. Announcements will be easier to do and get across our community due to the nature of notifications on the platform. People utilizing the discord server are more likely to see any notification from it. I can't stress enough how powerful bots for discord can be compared to ts3. Honestly, my argument in the past has been that bigger discords are a shit show to manage. This is due to me not being in a big discord that is well managed. Well managed discords with large communities are actually nice when you have an adequate amount of staff and bots for managing chat (typically, you want to automate this). So I will retract my statements from previous threads and say bigger discords can be managed successfully (if not better than teamspeak). -
3 pointsThe main reason I use discord is because in my own private discord I can do whatever I want, for example spam the porn bot with stupid shit until it breaks. I also like the privacy and how I am an admin of the entire thing. Teamspeak is also super ugly compared to discord.

@ThunderLimes you have a few fair points, your biggest one though "and it's just an overall better platform to make a server and talk to a small group of friends." I agree it's nicer when it's a small group of friends, but having a 100+ people all in one discord would not be something feasible. I want to get everyone on the same VOIP which is why I want us to be on teamspeak. Anyways, thanks for the input regardless :) -

It's really sad that when I try to get the community all united on one platform that we pay for, instead of spread out on discord in their own little hubs, that you consider that a shitfest and that I'm "shilling" for teamspeak. Regardless, you have been a major help to me when we switched our member apps as you were always super active to promote people to members as soon as the 2 day duration was up, and you always had a ton of input on anything tf2 related that was not only insightful but constructive. Thanks for all the work you've put in. -

A few points to anyone who isn't familiar with the differences between TS or Discord Bots: Ts has bots as well, and can be customized to listen to server chat or channel chat. I don't really understand the whole "I can't use teamspeak" since it's fairly straight forward if you ever used a VOIP in the past, and if you have a busy discord server, it does fuck your CPU usage compared to a busy teamspeak server. Discord is written in javascript and an electron based web application which is why it has an issue on performance when a lot of people are online. You can customize a teamspeak server much more than discord, especially in terms of roles which is why roles in discord are very clunky. You can even give powers channel related (for example staff in TF2 have control over the TF2 channels as well, whereas in discord I believe you must have powers in the entire server and can't be given powers over just a channel. Administration over teamspeak is much superior, kicking or banning in discord can easily be worked around, whereas teamspeak bans your UUID + IP, we have never had an issue after banning someone on teamspeak, that they constantly made new accounts and came back. Channels can have sub channels, and we can space them out with spacers to make it more neater, something discord does not have. Unless you lock a text channel, anything you say in there is public to everyone, instead of it being only with the group in the channel at the time. Imagine all the different groups of xG in one discord, and how hard it would be to organize everyone to their own channels, and give them the privacy they want. -

sigterm - Team Fortress 2
Elcark and one other reacted to Forest for a post in a topic
Disclosure: before saying what I have to say, just going to make a note that I did not view the demo attached so I will be basing this off of what Elcark said. First things first, if it's true that the Player was banned for aimbotting and the demo doesn't provide clear or accurate support for the accusation, then the permanent ban should be rendered null. As for the validity of the aforementioned 'exploit', @sigterm regardless of the fact that the "record;stop" function is an expected outcome introduced by Valve, utilizing it in a way that is outside of its intended use to create an unfair advantage for yourself is definitely exploiting/cheating and is thereby against our General Server rules; however, I do not believe that this constitutes a permanent ban (nor should the fact that the Player was accused of 'aimbotting' be used as any sort of leverage). With that said, based on the fact that: 1) we do not necessarily issue bans based on exploits/cheating (written in writing) and 2) the Player was not warned [assumption] prior to this ban not to abuse the exploit/cheat, I would suggest that the Player be unbanned with this thread serving as their first [and final] warning (given the nature of the situation) to not abuse this exploit/cheat on our Servers again. Now, I don't want to call anybody out, but for future reference; it should not take a few days for a verdict to be reached in regards to a Ban that was [possibly] wrongly dealt. It should also not take a few days for a Higher-Up to follow up on this thread. Last but not least, the Player posting the Ban Protest should not have to be the one to bump the thread for a verdict. -

Why not a public thread to iron out the issues that you or the other tf2 higher ups have with the community? If you don't think anything will come from such a discussion then you're misunderstood. Pretty silly to step down in such a fashion. -

1 point10/10 reading. Again you ignore me. It's like you read the first sentence and think "o wow this person is dumb lemme fix dat" and obviously you don't know how staffing works. Punishment is accumulated. If someone is banned for an hour than repeats the same offense it goes to a day ban. Our staff does their best to stay in communication about issues in the most convenient ways. Putting the responsibility like expecting them to be on teamspeak 24/7 is fucking dumb. When staff are in game they shouldn't need an ok to fo their damn job. If you have a problem with how staffing is done then find new staff, becuase I won't stand for myself or the other staff being put on the spot of " and the staff need to have their expectations and standards reset based off of your response here" you can fuck right off if you think so poorly of our staff. They do their job the best they can. Sitting here bundling every staff up as a collective idiot ia downright disgusting. It's pointless even arguing with you becuase you won't even read my response anyways. This is my last reply.

1 pointJust one thing I wanna point out is that i don't understand why people care about the interface that much do you even look at your discord every second you're on there? i personally like the simplicity of teamspeak and how well it does its job, plus the voice quality overall has more options and can be much better than discord
-
1 pointI'm pretty sure the whole TS vs. Discord debate was squashed with one word before. Security in TS is superior to Discord, hence why Rhodo wants us to use TS for the clan. I don't get why that's super hard to understand.

1 pointThe winner of the first vote Gamemode vote is: Dodgeball! And just a note: If the gamemode you suggested didn't win or wasn't featured in this vote, suggest it again in this thread. The more popular the suggestion, the higher the chance it'll get featured and win. You can also suggest hybrid gamemodes. For example: Medieval Mode with War 3, or Randomizer with x10. So be sure to suggest your ideas, 'cause if you don't, then it's not gonna be hosted!

0 pointsIP bans are easy to circumvent, if anyone wants to go out of their way to harass a xG discord we can enable any of the account moderation settings for new members (e.g. verified email+phone). Doing so would prevent even the most persistent individuals, whilst not affecting the experience of anyone with a rank on the server.

YeEternalTuna reacted to Chrono for a post in a topic
I think the person only reading the first word of a response here is you. The jist of this is that it's easier for you to type text to @everyone in discord than it is in teamspeak (not wrong here, but you can just type a message in teamspeak too [that only goes to the people in the teamspeak channel]) Your second post was literally garbage wasting space saying i don't know how to read, and that i don't use discord. I do, I enjoy discord with my friends who I have from real life and we play games once in a while. We use it quite well, and it is enjoyable i'm also subscribed to a few others that my out of state friends use. could they use teamspeak? absolutely, infact they have when they play games that I use TS for. I didn't say based solely off your response here that all tf2 staff are garbage and need re-evaluated. I will however say based off of your responses that you are someone who should re-evaluate yourself, you are taking a criticism in a discussion and getting bent out of shape over it. I clearly stated that it was based off of recent issues within the TF2 staff mostly based on ban requests and ban protests that were "controversial" (brian, the other dude with a loli spray), when you reset expectations, you have to reset them for everyone not just one individual, that way everyone is on the exact same page in terms of expectations I don't think poorly of staff, I have been a member for 6 years and the majority of it as staff in some way or form (M A DM DL) and I know what staff have to deal with, it sucks. but that doesn't mean they can be allowed to run amok and do things based on improper reasoning. Yes letting fellow staff know that something happened and to keep an eye out is fine, or saying "hey i just kicked this guy for x, if he does it again he should probably be banned" but all of staff decisions need to be based on legitimate experience, you saying "hey this guy was just kicked for mic spamming next time he needs banned" doesn't mean in 3 days he is spamming mic he should be banned. Punishment is definitely accumulated but only to an extent, the major issues recently have been taking that as a literal statement and bumping up to increased length and type of punishment for unrelated reasons. (again, see: brian) To liken this to real world since that might make it easier to understand, when you break a law such as theft, you pay a fine, next time you steal you go to jail you go for x time, and then you are let out. you do it again, jail is probably longer. now you're out again and you got a parking ticket... the way tf2 staff have been going recently that would mean you are put in jail for x3 the time over a parking ticket because you went to jail x and x2 for theft. That is why the staff need expectations reset, and don't you dare try to deny it because your posts in this thread alone are condoning this kind of staff behavior Staff don't need to ask permission to do their job but they are expected to do it properly, and when they are not they either get demoted or talked to, I prefer to talk to staff (which I did all the time as a DL/DM because it is better and far easier to correct a mistake than it is to just remove powers and not teach why it was wrong. -

You didn't post any points, your post was literally "if i want to tell people something i can @everyone" and that's it. As far as letting people know someone is "up for a ban next" you guys really really need to go over how to properly be a staff member. that is not how staff should be doing things, you shouldn't be banning someone for something because some other staff member said that they were "up for a ban next" you should be basing all of your own bans and kicks etc. off of what you experience in game with said player. (the exception being ban requests, as that is something only the higher ups can ban based off of anyway. this type of discussion is something that I think needs to be had and the staff need to have their expectations and standards reset based off of your response here, and the recent issues going on in TF2 staff specifically with ban protests and ban requests. @Aegean @Forest -

Have you ever given teamspeak a try? Personally speaking, they are both very simple to use. pick a name, join a server, join a channel, talk. with discord you have a by default giant UI and your PMs stay open until you close them vs. teamspeak having a default small UI and PMs close when you close them or close teamspeak. As a DM you should be readily available for any staff discussions taking place on TS and any questions from new players/members who find their way on teamspeak. TS also has bots, that are available as created/allowed by the server owner same as discord, we just dont use them since they are pointless to have, the most notable features of the publicly hosted (free) discord bots are the same things as the twitch streamers, they announce when someone goes live etc. or put a song in chat, the same could be done by a regular person. You just have experience with discord bots because you "own the server" and invited a generic free use bot into it. You can invite your outside of xg members into teamspeak, it is a public server for anyone that likes games etc. There is no stipulation that says you have to be an xG member, we have had people we met on tinychat join TS and stay for months and others we met randomly join and stay (hanney is a TS member xdddd) The whole point of this thread is to understand why staff dont want to use teamspeak (aside from their circlejerking cliques about who their next target is to get demoted (see: vector step down) sp when you say "There's too many reasons to list" you do literally nothing to help this conversation and you make yourself as a staff member (especially a DM) seem like you just don't care about helping further the community or community discussions. If the staff used teamspeak in the first place, you would be doing the same single message on teamspeak as you were discord, and if it is something major that really needs to be addressed to all staff instead of a "i'm logging off now guys" that should be something you message the DM/DLs of the division and let them handle distributing the information. @Kypari you are basically saying you like discord because you have the owner power in your own server, sorry buddy, but that's life you wont have that power in teamspeak because you aren't silence. I think that is a joke of a reason not to use teamspeak for xG servers. you can spam a porn bot through PM in discord and break it just the same. @Vargas and anyone else saying it's "super ugly" there are skins available that are IMO much better than discord UI but the default is also pretty nice. @all most members and staff that step down or have issues state that there are fundamental issues within the community such as availability of discussing issues and availability of staff to talk to about concerns. Myself personally I have had some questions time and time again about what exactly goes on in the TF2 servers and would look to message (preferably a DL/DM) a staff member from TF2 but the last dozen or so times the only one available to talk to was @Egossi on teamspeak, and before that was @Bello several months ago. By using your own several discord servers you actually drive a bigger wedge through the community by not being open to discussion about what is going on, and you make it harder for new/existing members or other staff to seek information on current events or ways things differ (clarifications on difference in rules/style) -
